Matte Box Woes

Curt's making a FF? Do you mean the motorised FF or have I missed something about him making a normal FF?

Paul, this might help..... from this thread.....

My hero...

So my AC can plug in a FF knob to the motor on the camera and pull from camera side... without having to switch over to a traditional FF? So I don't need to have two units on set? Just one that does both traditional and wireless?

Thats the idea. We are going to be making two things: the wireless remote and the clip on FF dial. The remote will be around the price of a bartech and able to control 3 motors instead of just one. The clip on FF dial is a one axis control and will most likely not be wireless. It will be able to work with a VERY long cable though - 100 ft or so.

:)

Ahh, that's a pretty good idea actually. I like that. Thanks I did miss that point.

Nope .. not yet. I've been trying to get some other pressing issues resolved.. I'll have something shortly - probably this next week.

Usually I'm good for searching before asking a question, but this thread is 37 pages long! So here's my Q: Curt, when do you think you'd be selling a matte box? Any chance you'd be ready to go by the time #27 ships? (assuming that's prior to September).

Why exactely #27, Shawn? Why not, for example number #274?

Shawn, Our goal is to get it to around $1K but thats subject to change until I get the finished design and quotes back. I'm doing my best to make this a design that will last and hopefully something everyone will appreciate. The goal was to get it out around the same time frame as the camera so we'll see how the September timeframe works out when Jim announces the revised schedule in a couple weeks as he said in another thread. My gut instinct is that September would be tight, October is probably reasonable though.

HeHe I think that is his brother, so probably from talking or working beside him :)

Wow, 38 pages of reading and a lot of mind expanding stuff in here.

I'm coming from the beautiful carefree position where I'm building a setup from scratch and it's incredible to find this much freely offered information and colaboration on this sort of thing.

When I saw the price of the Arri MBs i figured I'd just get runners to hold filters in front of the lens and tape cardboard on the top and sides...

I guess after reading this I'll wait and buy one of these. Nice work.

I suppose my only possible contribution is to say that I'd be perfectly satisfied with a 4X5.65...and probs hire a 6X6 if we decide to do anything that will need hubble telescope sized lenses and so on.

and since I don't have any filters right now and will be buying them... 4X5.65 is obviously cheaper than 6X6...

so there's an opinion from someone who's back isn't already bowing under the weight of previously bought 6X6 filters and cooke zooms.

hey CVB, how is the mattbox going ? anything to report ?
