I’m shooting a (2) camera show on the Sony Venice. We are using (2) of the EZ type Angēnieux lenses. This will be my first time working with the Angēnieux/s. The client/production company, they own the cameras & lenses and they don't own the Rialto module for their (2) cameras. I’m using a Sony FX3 as crash cam. The director wants to have a camera inside places like mailboxes. What DSLR lens would have the same color, contrast, and resolution as your Angēnieux EZ Type lens or a good suggestion so I can start testing?

Maybe this is a silly question, but why not use one Angenieux zoom on the FX3? Is there a need to shoot simultaneously with Venice cameras, so not available? Or is it too big for the “mailbox shot”?
If not possible, I think you’re looking basically for clean/modern lenses (the EZs feel a bit different to me than the Optimos and others). I worked on one production that used EZ zooms along with Tokina primes. Sigma would work, too, and are significantly smaller if you need to put them in tight places.
Another obvious choice to try would be the new Optimo primes. I’ve only shot a little test footage with the 20mm, so I can’t say much, but they live in the same “clean modern” universe and are very likely a good color match. Not sure how widely avail they are.
You’ll always have to push the color and contrast around a little, but it also sounds like the shots you’re doing are different enough from the regular coverage that it wouldn’t be that noticeable anyway.

The Angenieux zoom on the DSLR would be too big to fit in the places the director wants. He wants to do a few shots similar to Better Call Saul. Where you see the camera inside a gym locker and inside a gym bag. So when the gym bag is opened. You're looking up at the character's face.

A friend of mine mentioned that the EZ lenses are warm and slight soft. So he was saying the Canon FD's would be a good fit.

When I go to the rental house. I'll try out the Tokina's and the Sigma's

Thanks for your recommendations

the Ez zooms are really amazing value (we have them) but they don't really match the other Optimo zooms very well.. The colour is different and so is the resolution and contrast so I am also surprised by the above and I really don't think FD's would be a particulary good match..

EZ zooms are crisp and clean so I'd start with something like the Sigmas and see if that is good enough..
