Can people please list which lenses they know to be compatible for definite or incompatible with various PL to EF adaptors? I saw in another thread someone listed that UltraPrimes are not compatible with PL to EF adaptors due to their construction.

It has been widely repeated here that roughly 70% of PL lenses work with the top PL to EF adaptors but many don't work.

So can anyone list the ones they know have worked or don't work so we can start getting a list going.

Ultra primes might be out. How about S4's, Master Primes, PL version CP2's (even though they come in EF), etc?

Cooke 20-100, 18-100, 25-250
angenieux 15-40, 16-42, 28-76, 17-80, 30-80, 25-250, 24-290
I think that's it

you're better off getting a used scarlet package if PL is that big of a deal to you. Most PL to EF adapters are from ebay sellers with CNC machines and it's gonna be a guessing game as far as what lenses work and what don't. Backfocus and rear element protrusion are factors that make this a crapshoot. I remember trying to do this in 2010 when everybody wanted PL mount DSLR's.

Are you saying these lenses do or don't work with PL to EF adaptors?

These are the ones that I know work.
I also know that SSs, SPs, UPs, MPs, Luxs, Crons, CPs, CZs, S4, S5, S4mini don't work

Also, you should be able to adapt Canon 35's in BNCR mount to EF. I haven't tested but have heard that to be the case.

Has anyone considered Arri B / Standard to EF?

Here's probably the best PL to EF adapter (stainless steel): www.ebay.com/itm/261957604497 .

The ones listed as not working on that page don't work with Canon EF cameras for two reasons. One, the lens protrudes too far, hitting the mirror box in an SLR (which isn't a concern here, but it still might interfere with some internals.) Two, the rear of the lens just doesn't fit into the adapter.

So, if the lens fits in the adapter and doesn't protrude far enough to cause damage to the camera, it will work.

This has been covered many times over the years. There are virtually no typical workhorse prime lenses that will fit with a PL to EF adapter, most are non-shimmable and non-supported and have rotational play (which you can see when you focus and change focus direction.) If you must shoot PL lenses, you will either pay significant money to custom change the mount on the camera, or you should just get another camera.

The previously mentioned Angenieux zoom lenses 16-42 and 30-80 are not compatible. Of typical zoom lenses only the 15-40, 24-76, and 24-290 are known to fit.

Peter Dmitriyev, if you are considering CP.2, Xenons or Xeens, take the lumps of being a non-pro mount standard and go with EF mount versions, you'll save yourself some headaches. If you are in L.A. you are welcome to stop by our shop and get a demo of the most popular PL to EF adapter that can be purchased on ebay. Not a single one of our clients have ordered one after trying it in person.

Can we ask for a PL raven ?
I think will be the best solution to the smalish raven sensor size, I mean, most PL lenses are ol for S35 and S35 is more approach to raven sensor. If not PL raven goes to non true cinema lenses, and thats what red cameras are made for, yes ?

Really wish they would at least offer a PL version or go Interchangeable Mount like all their other cameras.

I would love to buy one but I spent way too much money on PL glass to then step down to EOS Eco-System

Makes no sense

I wish they would address this cause I need a camera

May end up going with a Sony A7r II & PL Mount

If your gonna make one mount best go MFT cause you can go any which way you want with very little issues.

I believe (might want to 2x check) that Phil Holland mentioned that a MFT mount is not possible on a Red because of the way the camera is designed. Plus, the body is only $6K so obviously Red is going to put some restrictions on it since you are getting a ton of camera for that amount of money. They need to (and should) protect their higher end cameras. Phil also mentioned that the Raven crop is 1.76x in relation to Full Frame. Would MFT lenses even work with that? I know MFT is 2x crop (relation to FF) aren't they?

Jarred already mentioned there going to be a Scarlet Weapon coming down the line which will stand between the Raven and Weapon. I wouldn't be surprised if that gets announced at NAB 2016. Jarred noted that all the newer Zeiss Cinema, Angenieux and several other companies have their top of the line lenses in EF mount. Maybe just rent those until the Scarlet Weapon comes out.

In the meantime, I'm going to be happy with the Raven and when the Scarlet Weapon comes out, sell the Raven and get true Super 35mm, interchangeable mount and probably a few other goodies on the Scarlet Weapon.

At the end of the day, this camera is $6K. Really cheap for what you get, but obviously going to have (justifiable) restrictions like no PL mount.

You can us a PL to EF adapter on a Duclos 11-16. Look at the mount area of the lens, if the metal part of the PL is less than 7mm you're likely to be OK. More than that probably not. Most primes are going to be tough. Good to test this before you show up on set thinking something will work.

10 points !!
Thats what I think too, RED need a Raven with PL mount

Ekran 25-80 zoom will fir depending on the PL mount. I had one that fit and one that didn't. Also, most longish primes fit. My 180, and 300 fit.

Haha, one of the lenses that don't really necessitate it, being that it has a native EF mount.

I'm thinking that Raven could be a bit of a trojan horse for getting the industry to adopt wireless/remapped internal-motor lenses via THC/FoolControl/Etc. I have a feeling that when people/1stACs on actual productions get accustomed to it, they're gonna start caring less about using actual cineglass for niche stuff (Gimbals or lightweight stuff)... I'm half-joking (now if only stills zooms were parfocal and had a motor for zoom).

What about Red Pro Primes?
I don't understand why I can't attach red lenses to red camera...

There is even an APS-C sized camera already in existence with a m4/3 mount. Thus you absolutely could fit a 1.76x sensor in a m4/3 mount! Heck it is only very very slightly bigger than the multi aspect ratio Panasonic GH2 sensor (which is wider than the ones usually in m4/3 stills cameras).

My thinking as to why they went with EF mount and not anything else:
1) can't go with PL lens, as need to protect the sales of their higher end cameras. If they offered RED Raven in PL mount then perhaps they've predicted it would be overall unviable for RED to do so as it would hit their profits too hard to carry on. Fair enough, I'd rather they offer RED Raven like this than not at all.
2) the optics look too bad for RED to produce a m4/3 mount camera which they're trying to sell as a "nearly APS-C / Super 35mm" sized camera. Which if true, is a pity, as I'd really really like to see a m4/3 mount RED Raven. Hopefully they'll do what BMD did, brought out a BMCC EF but saw the demand and later on produced a BMCC MFT option. (now you'd be silly to buy a BMCC EF! When you can get instead a better BMCC MFT for the same price)
