  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Massive Theft

Plus 1 for gps or somehow at least make the camera a brick in a future firmware update. Really dislike thieves. Sorry about your loss.

It would be so good to be able to find the people who did this and put them in jail for a bit.

for a bit??? forever!!!!!
sorry for your loss mate...

Yep, slap them on the hand, turn them loose.. Then they can do it again. Once a thief. I know what you mean but most of the time it's probation.. Not enough punishment, they get away with far too much.

wow! Kevin, you can't have authorities contact craigslist and trace IP of the craigslist listing etc?

Police would probably have to get a court order to get them to give up the info. They should give it willingly. Dislike Craig's List..Miami folks have been robbed so many times by crooks using Craig's list to steal from people...too many bad things happen there.

This is an issue which has exercised my mind a good while. Given that it is possible to add metadata to camera imaging and previous allegation that data can be illegally embedded in jpg images, is there the economic possibility of embedding the camera serial or some irremovable electronic tag to each frame of motion footage any camera produces and for that tag to be locked into any footage moved to market. I realise that all manner of privacy issues and US statute rights might be confronted. The fact that a camera could be backtracked might become a good deterrent to the theft in the first place.

GPS in camera body would be great. Then you could track all your location work as well. Sorry for your lose, were you insured? I'd love to hear your experience with your company. I have a thread on insurance companies I update. PM if you have a chance, best.

Sorry for your loss. Maybe this is a wake up call to add some type of gps in camera bodies, no?

Eye for an eye is a pretty great solution to crime. Having one hand makes it much harder for thieves to steal again. Would sure stop rapists from becoming repeat offenders.

This just sickens me. I'm so sorry to hear what happened. Hopefully the items will turn up and the perpetrators will get what's coming to them! These high end cameras are only used in small circles, larger budget productions, with everyone on the alert, its just a matter of time before they turn up!

Very high demand for this gear in eastern europe's burgeoning film industry at the moment. These guys are pros, once they target your gear, they watch and wait for the right moment, and have the tech to blow by any lock, door or alarm system. Same M/O they use for Mercedes and Beamers.

No doubt, many of them keep close tabs on on this forum.

To those of you out there, my gear is guarded 24/7 by three live velociraptors with no patience, even less humor, and an insatiable taste for burglar butt.

Is this at the Orlando Airport? or just it just happened in Orlando? Passing through Orlando Airport, i had one of my Pelican cases broken into and pilfered. However, it was one of my "Sacrafice" cases....my real gear of high value travels in old Ice chests that i've reinforced inside and outside all with locks---everyone asks where i went fishing--so assume it's full of fish or fishing gear. I've had this happen on more than one occasion where my nice looking Pelican & Storm cases are opened and pilfered and my Ice chests have NEVER been opened by anyone other than TSA or Customs in other countries...Funny enough all customs in Latin countries DO NOT open your gear without calling you down to VIEW and open for them your cases....they do not want the responsibility of gear gone missing. I guess in US, we assume our TSA are all above board and will not steal gear, therefore we allow them this ability.

AFAIK they found the burglars and recovered most of the gear.
Don't have all the details, but it seems like this had a happy ending...
