  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Martin + Osa Summer Diary (RED Camera Cut)

Fashion is much like art which again points to "think out of the box". Why should it look like a Hollywood movie? That would be boring and repeating IMO. But of course people have different opinions on these matters. And that’s a good thing.
 
Obin, Are you sure that RED has more dynamic range than a Varicam? From what I've seen the Varicam out of the box gets about 10 stops, then with BBC settings in the menu is upto about 13 stops. I get the feeling that with exposure protecting highlights and then good processing in RAW by someone who knows what they're doing (not me just yet!) you could maybe get up around there, but I don't think many people are from what I've seen.

Some of the shots appeared to almost vignette a little... Was that artificially added in post or a lens issue / selection....?

And I loved the piece... I liked the flow... It had a very vintage feel about it...
 
Great pictures, handheld style? I love it, it is a concept to tell: It was just taken spontaneously, like you shoot a diary with your pocket camera. I like that in this case. And I can't see any video footage, it's film. What I don't like: pictures over each other in handheld, there I agree with obin.

it is the dissolve cuts that really bother me on the edit, like you say pictures over each other handheld looks really bad.

I can agree to the posts above. The shots are incredible. The lighting is natural and fantastic. It's obvious the people who made this knew what they were doing. The highlights are great (except in one of the "camera car" shots - the one composed with the highway closeup) what a cool camera! I think overall, the edit doesn't do the cinematography justice. I also think better editing could also make the handheld shots appear a little bit more natural, there are some punctual jerks that are somewhat distracting.

A matter of opinion, obviously. But great work nonetheless!
 
Love! the piece. I would agree on the cuts and cross fades...a little too fast and not paced as well as they could be. BUT, the footage and the music choice is excellent. If the cuts are cleaned up a bit I could imagine this as a very solid ad.
 
Lovely work - was that all natural lighting, or did you use some lights/reflectors to light up the foreground?

Also, on one of the first shots, straight into the sun, there seems to be a grey spot right in the middle of the sun — does that come from the Red, or did that happen in post/compression?
