Manufacturing Redefined...

And that's just another reason it will be a joy to give some of my $ to RED. Creating real jobs, actually making something (something pretty damn significant, borderline revolutionary), and of course caring. This country needs all of the above.

Business is almost a religion in this country to the point where people are in business that care more about money than the product they make and the reputation they are leaving. For most companies the goal is simply to maximize this sum of transactions called sales, everything else is a very distant priority. Pushing the envelop in these companies doesn't exist, in fact progress only comes to extract more money from their customers. We all have way too many transactions with these kinds of companies. Unfortunately, it is far to rare that you find what I call the "genuine article." A company that cares about the product and what it does and it's impact on the lives of its customers that invest in that product.

RED DIGITAL CINEMA is the Genuine Article. They always joke about being a scam and not knowing what they were doing yesterday, but they stayed up and worked all night, and most importantly brought passion to their task. Some companies have come to see that they can throw as many dollars at them as they can but they can't throw passion at their task. We are all aware of the other means that have been employed to try and compete with RED. This is a product not of passion but more likely fear and desperation or perhaps greed. I am certain RED will continue to succeed because passion, hard smart work, and persistence are omnipotent. I see the pride in the product of your work, I see your passion for building tools that make images and for photography and cinematography. Godspeed RED

Amazing sight.

But did anyone else notice the same consistent "Red" typeface is used on the parts bins too...

It may seem small, but this was a conscious decision that shows an attention to design detail that is very rare now days...

Geeeze that almost makes you want to weep or cry, just unbelievable.

What an amazing example.

What is there not to love?

The small touches and details.

That space grade mounting jig is a work of art in itself.

The red PCBs,… red to the core.

13 minutes!!!!

Man that really gets you thinking as the Epic looks amazingly high quality from the inside and out. That counts a lot for me. Brands I won’t mention the names of, in a lot of cases don’t have that inside to out quality that they would like you to believe in. So the Epic looks somewhat but not excessively designed as “designed for manufacture” so it makes me think that “Kent” is an unbelievable genius. Really brings it home that there are still many ways to be smarter.

I’m sure 1 hour spent with Kent is serious eye opener and worth many thousands of dollars a second. Maybe one day you guys should have a charity raffle or dinner…

It also makes me think also that you guys could make or do anything…

To me that’s very exciting for the future and role model for other (true) US businesses.

Very Inspiring,

Thanks so much for sharing, as always

Eric

Normally I don't post to keep the noise level down but building a 5k camera in less then 15 minutes is dam impressive!
It is bloody impressive. Hey nice to see you are still around Reduser Learvis, how is Tokyo treating you?

Cool look behind the curtain! Thanks for sharing.

Do you assemble more than one at a time? Is there more than one assembly "line" going at a time or is everyone working on one part of one camera?

Thanks for the glimpse of how it's done! Sign me up for the tour as well.

Are there accessory lines running as well? Modules, Mounts, Media?

I can already envision a Science Channel or Discovery channel "How it's Made" episode on those beauties.

Wonderful to see- thanks for supporting US manufacturing and the glimpse into the future!

Hey Ian I never left I just lurk around lol! Tokyo has been great! Kako and Ivan here in Japan helped me out a lot since I been here (second time) Like they say Red is one big family and thank to Red I've got to work on feature films and met some great fellow Redusers. I check the site daily for updates on Scarlet it's a better fit for most of the projects I get . Oh and congrats on the first film of many you'll make! P.M me to let me know where to order it so I can check out your work!

Bravo!
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory go home. Or... maybe put little gold tickets in some of the shipping boxes. Ought to give us some great unboxing videos.

As a former computer repairer for those guys... I appreciate the lengths you guys go through for ESD avoidance.

Now THAT is a clean room. I can only imagine the HVAC system.

I wonder if Veruca handles QC?
