Wow.

Even the DVD packaging is raised to the level of high-art by Criterion. I've been waiting for a Thin Red Line re-issue for YEARS. Please Criterion, do the same justice to Badlands and I'll be forever in your graces.

Good God, those screens look amazing. One happy camper here.

Also good to see that Criterion has some good 4K master material here for when 4K home viewing comes around. Tom, want to take any bets as to when we'll see that version of the Thin Red Line from Criterion?

I'll ask Malick next time I see him. ;)

But indeed, I hope they did a 6K scan.

Right now, all the SAMSARA 65mm film is being scanned at 8K for a 4K finish.

And just when is Samsara getting released, if you know? Inquiring minds (OK, my mind) really would like to know.

2011. They have a rough cut now. Magidson and Fricke are considering doing some more pickups in the months ahead, including some work in the southern hemisphere. I cannot wait to see SAMSARA! There is some small chance I might get to see a cut in December. If I do, and if they allow me to talk about it, I will make a thread here for sure.

This is proof of what I have been thinking all along. When REDRAY is available - there is going to be a demand to remaster films to 4K.

'The Thin Red Line's' 1080p AVC MPEG-4 transfer (aspect ratio: 2.35:1) is the single greatest high definition transfer I have ever seen. I mean that. The bar has been raised. And now there's something to compare all other releases against.

In the booklet, the following note is made about the transfer: "Supervised and approved by director Terrence Malick and cinematographer John Toll, this new high-definition digital transfer was created on a Spirit 4K Datacine from the original 35mm camera negative in 4K resolution. Thousands of instances of dirt, debris, scratches, splices, warps, jitter, and flicker were manually removed using MTI's DRS system and Pixel Farm's PFClean system."

Picked up Thin Red Line last night. This movie has long been my reference pick for stunning visuals, but nothing prepared me for this. Right from the start, with the crocodile submerging in the swamp, this Blu-Ray raises the bar way high.

From the cover of the DVD case to the first-play menu, everything about this Criterion Edition bespeaks of class.

Looks like great quality. Have been very disappointed with Blu-Ray's in the passed. Nice to know some people are doing it right.
