Been running 20.1.3 for a few days now, not major problem ..until today.

I have "SATA_TRANS_FAULT" all the time. We can not run the cam for 5-10 sek until the error come. We can not use flash card because it is a long take.

Still on location. Re-flashing with 17 now. Dir minds is exploding...

I got same error yesterday we thought it
was the loud bass in the playback. Strange
thing happened as well. The Effected clips had no proxies
in the folder only the R3d's. Also the R3D would
come up as a grey screne in Redcine
but it played fine in Red Alert.
I am waiting for the proverbial reaming
from the Post House any minute.
We got the warning three or 4 times throughout
the night but I could always reference clipfinder
to check

I had this problem and had to send my drive and cables in. No problems until Build 20. I was told that the camera now detects errors and stops recording in order to prevent reboots.

We just today started receiving this problem, we upgraded mid shoot (stupid move but we were experiencing random reboot issues with build 17).

The 1st and 2nd day were perfectly fine only issues we had was the DOP loosing the color settings and also some proxy playing issues on our Mac. but today (3rd day) we are receiving this error.

The only thing which has changed is the location (smaller interior shoots) and also musical playback.

Both times we received this error is during recording.

I have submitted a support ticket, just waiting for a reply and also I'm posting here because multiple heads are better than one.

Tuff shit, use sandpaper.
..hard day but I'm still alive.

Final verdict was 22 broken shots of 92 total. I'm running redundead to see if I can make the damage smaller.

Last day all was working fine, nothing changed. Same drive, same cables, same all. Yesterday we unloaded the reddrive, today we just formatted it as usual and, POW! world of hell. :mad5:

20 is good, but have some serious mental issues need to be addressed.

Yesterday, we experienced the same error with new Build!!

Yikes. So what exactly is this (obviously Red Drive) and does it strike at random or under certain conditions?

Is it when it finds a questionable sector on the drive?

The funny thing is that our drive never made a problem prior build 20. We didn't have random reboots also. Now we have to have it repaired costly. That's a bit funny, but well that's how it is I guess.

Side question: Does anyone know where to re-download old build versions?

Looking on my system I only have Build 18 and 20. I just upgraded to 20 and I'm about to test it now.

Yup, had that as well, had to send the drive in.

I'm not sure the problem is all redrive problem, because we tested with several drives and same problem.

We have not had this before, so only common factor with this problem is build 20.1.3.

A pure guess here, is that the drive communication inside the camera is modified. The drive is made to be fast and just take massive amount of data without filling its internal cache. If the drive communication is new, then also new problems will occur. The drive sounds like it have become "fragmented" and need to go back and forth to write.

My guess the problem will go away if I zero out the drive and re-format it under older build.

have the same issue on two cameras. On one i was able to solve it by downgrading to build 18 then upgrading back to 20.0.3. I did go through all of the 20 - 20.0.3 build just in case. The error remained. Then i swapped cables. Upgraded to 20.1.3 And the error vanished. Strangely but now even the bad cable works fine. I know not much help. Still Voodoo. AS a note before on build 20.1.3 i could not even record one take with the SATA ERROR. Was using the new 640GB drives.

Yesterday I received the error as well on one or two takes out of around 150. I was shooting 72 fps to 2K 2:1.

Also experienced two playback failures.

Good shooting and best regards,

Leo

Got a strange playback failure with the raid drive (images and sound recorded) yesterday.
On the first try the message was clip can't be play. Gave a second try to the same clip and got a trans sata error. Then I unpluged the microphone from the camera (phantom) and play the clip again and it finally worked.
I was wondering how much power a playback need?
Regards

I had this error. Changed drive cable to another and never had it again.

I think that B20 reports the errors a bit too sensitively to prevent reboots occuring during playback (This error only seems to happen during playback in my experience). I guess some cables are better than others.

I had the error about a dozen times before changing the cable eradicated the problem altogether.

I haven't yet checked the cable again to see if it still does it or whether it was a ghost in the wire for that particular day.

I'm not sure the problem is all redrive problem, because we tested with several drives and same problem.

Just did a test with 3 RED-DRIVES & CABLES and only have the “SATA_TRANS_FAULT”-error in playback on the camera. Also doubt if this is a hardware problem.

RED-DRIVE and SATA error

No, that's just a guess. If you are having this issue please contact RED technical support.
