  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Major improvement... free as usual.

Yes, I had this issue and it was chronic until my battery plate was updated. Haven't had a SINGLE shutdown issue since then.

And please, this isn't the place for this message. Can we PLEASE give Jim a moment to give us good news without pounding him with problems. That's not to say that your issue isn't important, of course it is, but this isn't the place to raise it.

Make sure you have the new version of the Red Battery Plate. There was a problem with the old plate that caused random shutdowns, or if you bumped it even just a little bit.

its not so bad sending a RED back to USA... I´ve done it several times.
1 paper 3 copies--- RED will tell you what to write. call Fedex and off it goes...

I also had some problems in the beginning but RED took real good care of me.... I´m 100% sure they will fix your situation... my camera is rock solid now.

Let's get back to the topic of the new update... :hand:
I think that is great news!!!!!....one concern though....does that mean our NLEs (Adobe/Apple/Avid) are going to have to update their plugins to support those new enhancements and color science? If so, can someone from RED please make sure those companies are aware of the coming changes early enough so we don't have to wait weeks/months before we can actually use those improvements (without resorting to transcoding everything in Redcine-X)

Thanks!

Instead of saving it just for the new cameras like most companies would, we decided to share the improvements with our RED ONE owners.

Jim

As a long time reader of this forum, and someone who is full of admiration and the utmost respect for how Jim and his team have so rapidly, and with such integrity, permanently altered the professional imaging and camera accessory paradigm (especially in a market whose evolution, compared to perhaps any other, has essentially sat stagnating since 1880), I ask that please everyone, take this the right way. I know you guys can be staunchly protective.

I can only assume that the Red team are (rightfully) very proud of this latest improvement, as I don't recall having ever reading a post from Jim that was even remotely self-righteous, or derisive of any "competition" before!

Congratulations,

Kule Gray

Once again, we have a new major improvement in image quality coming. Of course it will be N/C. Look for a new camera build and color science improvement the likes of Build 16, 20 and 30. It makes new (and old) footage even better. Improved DR, noise characteristics and color stability with high ISO. The power of RAW!

Jim
I think we misunderstood your original motto of "making obsolescence obsolete." Most of us thought you were talking about the camera itself, but it was apparently about the image all along. Through firmware and software builds you are making even our old footage "improveable".

On a personal note, I was sent a sign that this was coming, years ago while at a local football game. I didn't understand it at the time, but now I know why the pep squad kept chanting "RAW! RAW! RAW-RAW-RAW!"

I forgot to ask this in my earlier post.

Is this improvement for both M and MX series RED one's?

If stating facts classify as being derisive. Yeah, we're outta luck.

Just picture this scenario: The rise of popularity of 35mm adapters.

Did any camera company offered a firmware that introduced a simple image flip on monitoring?

Sony only put this on the EX-3 and left the EX-1 as it was.

Not to mention every other camera that was out before.

If companies are improving with their customer support we should thank RED for that. RED made the point.

IMHO.

Jim and RED Team,

Though I am not a RED owner, thank you for your pursuit of perfection.

Posts like this (and the recent Build 30) continually reassure me that even if some other company produces a camera which is technically equitable with future offerings, I'd rather buy RED.

I've never known a company to do things like this. Firmware updates that "fix" problems or address significantly missing features, yes. Firmware updates which significantly enhance the capabilities of present cameras, despite new models just around the corner, never.

I sincerely hope RED keeps this as a part of their core business model. I feel like it respects the consumer, and garners respect for RED in return.

We discovered how to get more out of the M-X sensor while developing EPIC. We also discovered those improvements could be passed down to the RED ONE. Instead of saving it just for the new cameras like most companies would, we decided to share the improvements with our RED ONE owners.

Jim

Believe in users who participate in the development of a product differs RED from others.

I just had "issues" with my RED One on a recent shoot. Kept on saying "audio error" and stopping to record on some of our takes. Restarted camera and it was fine. Just was horrible in the sense that it ruined probably 5 or so good takes! :(

How about posting "issues" on the correct thread. It is kind of a buzz-kill here.

Ville and others who are having problems, make sure to work with RED closely via phone and email, as I have always found that to be the best way to solve these problems. And when RED asks for you to send log files or any other data that will help them, make sure you do it. They need as much info as they can get to help solve your problem. Also, keep notes as to exactly the conditions, scenarios, etc that the problem is occurring. They WILL get your problem fixed or do whatever is right to get you up and running. That has been my experience.

Now, we have to give Jim his due respect here and try not to kill these threads with negative responses. There's a time and a place, but this isn't it. These guys work their butts off and when they make a breakthrough, they enjoy sharing it with us. I think it's fine to ask questions about it, but going completely off topic and introducing negative vibes I'm sure doesn't match the spirit of the post. So, if we could, let's keep it on track so we can learn more about this advance in the science. I'm keen to know more.
