I know that the magnify mode gives you a 1:1 of the sensors full resolution, but does this mode ONLY show you the very center of the sensor?

I wanted to move the "center" of the magnifier around , like I do on my DSLRs when they are in magnify mode, but I am unsure if that is even a function that is enabled on the camera.

Can this be done yet?

Best

It can only show the center, but I agree that would be great if it's technically possible

I would kill a stuffed animal (like the ones from a claw machine) for that feature.

The simple functionality of moving the magnified area with the directional pad on the DSMC Side Handle would be worth many high fives.

Wait, you guys don't frame your subjects in the center every time? Weird...

This + 1:1 while recording = one very happy AC, next firmware update?

if I say + a million, will it be counted as such?

It seems pretty lame that a $500 DSLR can do anything an Epic or Scarlet can't features-wise. This is one of those things that users want now, that is obviously not that hard to do. (at least for Canon, Nikon, Minolta, Fuji, Panasonic, Olympus, you get the point.) I really feel that RED owes it to themselves to be able to not only deliver mind-blowing high-end specs but to also be able to do all the normal usability things that every other dslr/dsmc owner has come to count on. This is the type of thing that many users really want and have taken for granted for years that it seems weird that RED can't bring to us in the most technologically advanced camera in the world.

If they let themselves get bogged down in the minutea like this we would all lose out. I think a lot of these little things will come with time.

There are many examples of "minutiae" on the RED One that never quite got fixed. In the mean time there are about 100 pieces of metal that I can attach to my rails now in the RED store that 95% of may or may not ever do me any good.

I actually gave this a bit more thought on how to implement this feature after a shoot.

- a menu setting to allow perhaps touch and zoom in function on the area you desire to magnify. Currently the pinch to magnify works nicely, but the ability to quickly pop in on a specified area via touch would be great.
- I mentioned previously about moving the magnification reticle via DSMC Side Handle arrows. However, I think if that moved 1/4 of the reticle size in distance on each touch that would be plenty. No need for less than that in my opinion.
- I only desire 100% magnification and think that should be left as is.
- a ghost memory that remembers where you last zoomed in.
- a drag control via touch screen to move once zoomed in, similar to how playback slides through clips, would be nice.

Just some thoughts. I think much of this is possible and not too crazy to implement.

This would be great But the whole DSLR can do it why cant red is not a bandwagon I will jump on. Two different machines.

+1000 the director asked me this exact question earlier this week on a shoot and all I could say was, I really don't think you can do that!

I didn't know there was such a bandwagon and my requests are not limited to 5D's. There are some basic usability issues that other cameras including DSLR's, shoulder mount broadcast and others have come up with very good solutions for over the years that RED sometimes leaves out for one reason or another. I think we can all agree that having a thumbnail playback mode on the RED One would have definitely saved some time on set. If I had to go back more than about 20 clips to see a shot I would know that it would be a hassle and if I tried to go too fast it could very likely lock up, that is still true to this day for the One. RED cameras should be held up to the same standard of cameras costing more and less. Just because the things they are working on for the future are going to be crazy cool doesn't mean that they don't need to remember the details, the usability issues, the REDMotes that often lose connection, the REDVolts that won't quite lock in place, the black shading problems, the lack of a way to connect my frickin' BOMB and TOUCH at the same time. I think that's madness. I have been one of the biggest fanboys at times but sometimes I just see things that don't make sense and really hope that they will be fixed or addressed soon. I could do more with my Birger mount and Impero 3 years ago than I can today with the Epic. What????
