Mac vs. Windows...

Windows 7!
Mac OS X only useful for Prores.
I work at a post house right now where we use a huge mix of both Mac and Windows and linux based servers. IMO Windows far more stable as an OS.

I've always stuck with MacBooks on the road and always will (since they seem to be Apple's darling behind the iDevices). As for towers, The Z820 RED Edition was looking pretty tasty at NAB! My 2010 12 Core still chews through 5k without much difficulty but I've built the hell out of it with lots of RAM, fast RAID, an expansion chassis, 3 Graphics Cards and a RR. I can def hold out a bit to se if another Mac Pro escapes from Cupertino... but it's a drag always wondering if THIS ONE is going to be my last Mac tower.

I'm really ready for a new power machine and like so many others here, just waiting to see what platform I'll go with.

PS Apple seems to try going handheld devices even for editing work, which I highly disagree with for any professional work. Which I believe is the direction FCP X eventually wants to go. I believe Apple imagines a hipster editing his video on a grassy knoll at lunch break on a college campus. Which is all fine and good. Just not for the pro market. I need my big color calibrated monitor(s), which a tablet will never work.

As far as PRO mobile: If I have to choose between going out with my friends and family and maybe doing some work while we're out and about OR staying at home to work because my mobile device isn't capable of handling the work I need to get done, I will choose the former. To have TRULY mobile work machines (wireless, connected, light, small, powerful) is what Apple (and the PC world) would love to see. Or at least I would. To get there means a mediocre middle ground in the mean time... and even long term, highly accurate color grading should be saved for the calibrated suite...but all else would be great to do once mobile devices can handle it.

If I had to pick one and stick with it, probably Mac. Having a lifetime of experience with the platform and knowing all the quirks and workarounds for all its media frameworks and a good chunk of its third party software ecosystem more than makes up for the lackluster performance/cost ratio. However, if Apple doesn't step up its pro offerings, I'll be getting a PC tower to compliment my Macbook Pro once my current project moves into post.

Windows all the way.... Better and much faster hardware available and way less restrictions! Beside better virus protection, the Mac no longer offer advantages over windows. Just my opinion.

Mac rules.

Windows is a such mess computer operating system just because I can't get online without installing a heavy virus protection.

MacBook Pro and a good enclosure it's a way to go...I work more than two years like that...

This example is also related to the latest battle iPhone5 vs. Samsung Galaxy 4s.

Mac.

Too much invested and swore I wouldn't go back to Windows. Too many previous bad experiences.

What's your preference then Jim. You said in the past you where Mac. Have you changed your preference???

Be interested to hear your thinking...

:))

Mac.

I was a PC user since I made my first machine back in 1975 with the original Microsoft 4K BASIC running on it. Resisted until a few years back. MACs are so much nicer.

This last week, the Mac was rated the best Windows machine.

The problem with Windows machines is as they get older, they get very slow with all the security updates.

Both.

Michael

Mac.

a bunch of towers, iMacs, minis and laptops (not to mention all the iDevices)
and one monster Linux box.
