  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

M-Logic RED Rocket enclosure JUST WORKS

More is always better. When I got my enclosure there wasn't any other options so it was easy for me to decide. If you need smaller, the M-Logic is definitely the smallest. I guess it doesn't have a fan for cooling where the sonnet does and its admittedly a little loud. I have the Decklink SDI card going to a monitor. I suppose you can get the BlackMAgic thunderbolt to SDI adapter to do the same thing as the second slot.

Bob,

What enclosure do you have? Do you feel there's a big advantage to having more than one slot available?

The M-Logic definitely has a fan, it is just small. G-Tech was known for their cooling efficiency so M-Logic's products should be as well.

So wait a sec, you plugged the RR straight into the computer while it was running and it connected up no problem???
I have the Magma and if I plug in while the computer is running it freaks out and kernel panics/crashes/mayhem....

EDIT: Never mind. That must have been fixed in a recent Mac OSX update. Works fine for me now ;)

Yeah! It doesn't work 100% of the time. Sometimes I need to restart REDcine-X. Very occasionally I need to restart the computer. Hot swapping the M-Logic definitely works, though.

EDIT: oh cool!

There is no speed increase in this unit over any other TB chasis...correct?

Really good question. Now that there are soon to be 3 enclosures on the market we should do a speed test. Someone can upload a 1gb R3D and then we all post the times we get with our enclosure/computer combination.

I suspect the times will all be comparable, especially since the Thunderbolt spec limits us to x4 lanes anyway. It would be a fun test though, and I don't mind posting my times for an uploaded R3D on my Magma.

I really wanted the mLink-R, but the constant delays and bad communication regarding the unit scared me to the Magma. So far, I love it, no problems to report (on OS X 10.8.2)

Just got the email, M-Logic purchases are LIVE! $699 and orders today ship Tues/Wed next week.

I think Im screwed...
The online side wont sell offshore US... unless I use PAYPAL.. grrrrr.
I'm in a dispute with PAYPAL for taking money from my card, so cannot and will not use them. HATE PAYPAL !
Looks like I have to buy one some other way...? (unless MLogic fix there credit card section in there web site)
Why are things normally so easy... then become so annoyingly difficult.

...don't worry - Paypal-Link doesn't work anyway!

Hello Justin!

...the guys from M-Logic will send me the box to germany - which is goooood!!!!

Now I have a question on your DIY thunderbolt-esata-adaptor, which is the smallest I saw so far.

Can you tell me how you did that? ...does it need extra power?

Thank you for your help!

Christian

The only trick to it is the SATA to eSATA cable. Amazon sells it but I'm not sure where you can find it in Europe. I had to whittle away the sides of the SATA end of the cable to make it fit in the GoFlex SATA port but that is the only modification I had to make to get this working. It is bus powered through the thunderbolt cable so no external power is needed.

Turns out I may need to get one of these M-Link-R's myself due to the smaller size. Has anyone else bought and/or used one and can report on how well it works? Any better or worse performance than the Sonnet? How loud is it compared to the Sonnet, which I find to be fairly loud but am not sure if that is the enclosure or the Rocket fan?

Hello! Has anyone used NVidia Cards on the MLink-r?? It doesn't appear on the compatibility chart but a real good technician who works for me says it is ok to use them. Anyone know anything about this?
