Hi All,

I have to say that I have been underwhelmed with the performance we are getting from our RED Rocket since moving to the M-Link R setup when in Adobe Premiere. We are working on a top of the range iMac 27 inch that is a month old.

We are just about able to play back at 1/4 RES but at 1/2 res it's dropping way to many frames. Have noticed that Premiere is crashing a lot too.

I wondered if anyone else has noticed this. We have been reduced to encoding to Pro Res which is disappointing considering such a chunky investment in both Adobe and into RED and M-Link.

Any one else experienced similar?

Ryan

I guess if you work with low compression 5k stuff then 1/2 will be clunky.
Only used our new Mlogic on the small macbook air and then 1/4 is a bit big in frame size still... But it for sure does not play 1/1 and 1/2 grading and such goes really slow / does not update on the fly etc.

Yeah I have the exact same setup and Premiere def. can't handle 1/2 res. It is not the M-Link though, if I take the same project into Speedgrade it plays like butter at 1/2 res. I haven't had a chance to test this myself but I've heard you need at least a 300MB/s RAID to run at 1/4 res in Premiere. Not sure what it takes for 1/2.

How fast is a thunderbolt Lacie HDD seated on the Mlogic TB?

You mean if you daisy chain it? Doesn't come close to maxing out Thunderbolt's throughput...the fastest real world I've seen from 3.5" spinning drives is about 120MB/s.

That was my guess, good then I know thats not my bottle neck.

So does that mean that the problem lies with Premiere? Rather than with the Rocket because it appears to work ok in RED-Cine X.
