  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

LOST Series and Finale Brilliant!

Who do all the harsh critics on this forum think they are? Do they have any idea how many awards LOST has been nominated for and how many it has won or how many viewers it has consistently held over six years of the most competitive entertainment market in history? Do they even understand how extremely difficult it is to create something (anything) as successful and as complex as six years of LOST?

I simply asked for what I believe to be a much deserved standing ovation to the hardworking cast and crew as they celebrate the finale of a job superbly executed. How in the world can you turn this thread into a piss-rant of underserved negativity?

Show some respect. Find something good to say. The hundreds (if not thousands) of filmmaking craftsmen that worked on the LOST series deserve better from the RED community. This wasn't a "what did you think of the ending?" or "here's my opinion" thread. It was a straightforward congratulatory thread to what I believe are some of the most talented people in the business.

To those that found something nice to say. Thank you.

I agree it was well executed and generally had good production values.

However, as to "who I think I am", I am the audience, and have every right to my opinion of the story arc. I think it collapsed at the end, and quite frankly it appears that the creators somewhat reneged on the "it's not just a dream or the afterlife" stance originally taken.

Are we not entitled to an opinion of a creative work, or is art now above criticism?

...it appears that the creators somewhat reneged on the "it's not just a dream or the afterlife" stance originally taken.

I think that depends on what you mean by "it".
If you mean the whole thing, then I disagree. Only the flash-sideways was "the afterlife" - it was just something they all created so they could find each other. Everything else "happened", just like Jack's father said.
If you mean there couldn't be any part of it like that, then I'm not sure they've ever promised that. Through the years the creators have been asked if the island was purgatory or something like that, and they've always said no. And it wasn't, as far as I'm concerned. But that's just me. :)

Signs that worry me is when a show use narrative like:
- It was a dream
- It was another life
- I'm i the matrix ... again
- Great Scott! I'm back in time

I prefer creative plots using new narrative ways. There are thousands of ways that could have explained everything in detail, and not fallen in the "it was a dream" trap.

Would have been hilarious if there was a evil scientist and they all where cloned with robots that battled aliens and in the end the island lifted of in a blase of special effects :)

- Great Scott! I'm back in time

In general I agree, but Doc Brown and Company didn't use it as a loophole, it was the main plot vehicle, and done exceedingly well, IMO.

And sharks with frickin' laaayy-zers on their heads!

Lost is one of the greatest TV shows ever made and has been a type of event that I would be surprised ever comes back again. I only started watching it almost a year ago and have been hooked. Its one of those shows that have to be seen from the beginning. A lot can be lost if you don't. Plus there is some real history between the characters in most of the episodes that if you don't see you don't have as great as a respect for.

The final season I was into but unsure what was going on. But then the whole thing happened with Desmond where he saw both timelines and started awakening the others to the idea of that there was a life or memories of something that happened before. I thought the end was a really good way to end the series and I was happy with the way it ended. Are there still some unanswered questions, sure but that's life. Not everything is answered.

I'm not sure how someone could complain about the score for Lost as I feel its one of the best scores I have ever heard and I listen to it quite a bit. Its way better than any other score for a TV series and makes the series feel like your watching a movie.

Mahalo Michael.

I had a feeling you were involved Shawn. So jealous... but in a good way. ;)

P.S. When Jack started running down that cliff in the rain to attack the MIB (Locke), I said to myself "That is the coolest thing I've ever seen on television!" and had to rewind to watch again before proceeding. Wow!

That scene was gnarly to shoot - the stunt guys were soo amazing up there... It was nuts.

But so was humping/hiking all the camera gear. So many air tanks for the Hydroflex housings...

Andrew, have you ever watched Battlestar Galactica? The score is amazing (and better IMO). Greatest TV show ever (again MHO)...

I'm going to start watching in a week or so. If it was on instant view through Netflix I would be watching it sooner. BTW "Lost" in on instant view and in HD. It looks amazing.

I forgot this is happy-forum where no criticism is allowed :).

They wrapped it up at the season finale. They didn't exceed the expectations though.
