  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

LOOM - ONLINE

Great question.. and after spending 3 days fucking around with X264 settings to compress this video and still not even come close to the quality of REDRAY encoding it makes me appreciate RR even more. There will be a standalone and an RCX integrated solution for encoding to RedRAY format.

That's what I needed to hear. The disconnect I worried about was the integration of other content (VFX etc) back into a completed project. I presume the standalone will convert from RGB formats, prores etc...?

I feel your encoding pain BTW. I've been trying to support a Japanese technology client of ours to get 4k demo footage working on one of their products - went mildly insane bashing X264 from every angle to no avail. Glad I'm not alone... although I was amazed that said technology giant's UK office had NO idea how to get 4K into their own product, nor even if it was actually possible. LOL

Any plans to release a software player as well? H264 is the bane of my existence. A nice codec would be very useful.

I would have thought the ability to decode for viewing the REDRAY formatted files would be essential for verifying / previewing / simulating content before committing it to disk. I guess that would be locked down within RED's chosen environment of RCX or other app... another standalone would be redundant unless in the form of a plugin to other more standard players surely?

I remember getting out of the first showing of Loom, and meeting Phil Holland and talking about it.

Then I see Giovanni Ribisi walk by me.... I thought surely not.... Then I see Jarred walk up and take him in the theater.... I wish I could have ninja'd my way behind them.

Pretty cool stuff.

Playback is dedicated to the REDRAY ASIC.... so REDRAY player.. REDRAY projector... etc. etc. etc.

I was going to ask at NAB, have you tried a rear projection shot with the RED laser and an Epic? I have a great feeling that with the Sensitivity of the Epic would make this a viable FX solution, but I figured you would have tested it out by now ;) Would love to kick the old green screen to the curb and replace it with a nice light wrapped rear laser projection.

Will the Red Rocket be used to speed up redray encoding? I just got mine and wonder if it will help in that regard?

FYI, my Mac won't sleep with the Rocket installed, but it seems if you uninstall the driver it will sleep. The problem is the Rocket installer does not have an uninstall option and I have no clue where the driver is to manually remove it? Where do I find those drivers?

And for what its worth, the 3D was amazing at NAB on the Laser... just stunning no stress 3D, Bravo!

Great! Nice!
