  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Looking to plan my trip to NAB early this year

Anyone have any advice on getting good deals on tickets for nab? I went last year with my wife and we stayed a fancy hotel and stuff. I didn't register because I thought if i showed up on the last 2 days I could maybe get in for free... NOPE! anyhow looks like there is a field for a discount code..how do I get one of those?
 
Dude its fun. The one thing I DID like about going for the last 2 days was.. I walked in, saw the red booth for like 5 minutes, then went on a hunt for the items i wanted, made deals on the floor for nice discounts, then agreed to meet RIGHT before they started wrapping up and picked up my Easy Rig, few bits and pieces from different vendors. MOST importantly tho, I was able to meet a lot of the people who you actually speak to on the phone when you call or email these companies.. They scan your badge when you walk into their booth, and I've found on more than one occasion the people on the other end of the phone were a little cooler and even mentioned to me "hey I see you came to our booth at NAB"

Relationships are everything. Nab was definitely worth it for me, and am looking forward to it again.. Maybe this time I can meet some of you people!

I can't wait for NAB. I'll probably go this year, haven't been to the actual show yet.
 
the real bonus to the show is all the parties. It's pretty epic...

What Stacey said. I'll post some as well. Frankly, I have NEVER paid to attend NAB. I have either had press credentials or used mfg. passes. (Most exhibitors will offer free pass codes .... just check their web sites ... might be a bit early though.) The other thing is to get a hotel room as early as you can, especially if y want to stay close to the convention center. NAB will have rooms blocked out in all the major convention hotels, and often times you will get a better rate booking through NAB.
 
getting pumped. I am thinking about trying and getting a group rate at like the Bellagio or something if anyone gets psyched like me let me know I will try and organize something

Good luck. I would think that it would have to be one hell of a large group. NAB is one of the biggest conventions in Vegas .... second biggest I believe, right after CES. Hotel rooms are generally at a premium, especially if you want to stay close to the Convention Center and/or at a hotel that has NAB shuttle bus. Unless you are a legitimate "high-roller" with some "juice" at your casino/hotel, or unless you have a relative who works at the reservation desk, your best bet is to book early, and seriously consider the group rates negotiated by NAB listed on their web-site.
 
I'm thinking of going again this year. Last year was my first and I definitely had a great time. Rooms are pricey for sure but it's fun.

Is there a good place in Vegas to park a car to sleep in? '-)
 
Watch flight prices and see what you find. Deals will pop up here and there. Lots of companies will post codes so you can get into the exhibits for free. You can also get in free with an Alumni pass if you have attended before. After parties and whatnot usually need an invite or pre-registration.

I haven't been to the past 2 NAB's now... I want to make it to this one, but it looks like it's not happening... again.

If I do make it to NAB, I'm going to party like it's 2099... My birthday is NAB week this year. Also part of the reason I may not make it. My wife hates Vegas, birthdays are important to her, especially certain milestone ones like this year (40), and I'm not so sure she trusts me as much as she says she does. ;)

Last two years I missed because of kids' sports and other family vacation plans...

No. And that's likely to get you arrested if you're within city limits if the cops catch you. There are several cheap places to stay and quite a bit of "free" parking if you pay for one of those places to stay.

Or you could just spend all your time on the casino floor and catch little cat-naps while standing in a corner or sitting down briefly to rest for 20 minutes. Seen it lots of times.

Haha. I hate Vegas too. I just go to hang with all you guys. And that is usually a lot of fun. And sometimes trouble, depending on who I'm hanging out with. Yeah, theres some of you here that know what I'm talking about.
