  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Look at my cool new Nikon Mount!

Hey Douglas, just a small clarification on your focal plane....

It's actually a tiny bit further back than first line you used to measure from.

The focal plane is right in between the line you were using and the following line prior to the red record button on the smart side of the camera.

That's what has been said in the past anyway and where the focus hook sits your measuring point to begin with.

I ordered mine! Can't wait!

RED really dropped the ball on this one. . .

. . . but I strongly suspect they did it intentionally. . . to sell more RED lenses (and, in my case, it almost worked. . . thanks to Doug Underdahl for saving me from that mistake!).

They did not drop the ball. They are running their business plan as they think they should run it.

This would upset me if I still felt 3rd party Vendors were being left out of things, but it would seem from Doug's involvement that this is changing..

This is a good thing.

I'm not saying I want to avoid RED products, but I am saying I want to have choices, and RED cannot be all things to all people.

Stephen,
The red nikon mount is in the production since a few days.
Knowing Red it means it'll be available in the next two weeks (guessing).
Obviously, it would be very practical to have firm update with solid dates.

I don't believe RED on their Nikon mount. . . I'm CERTAIN that, even if I ordered it today, it will be months before I'd get one.

Doug's mount looks like a great solution until the Birger finally shows up. . . assuming that it DOES finally show up.

I think RED left these mounts to third parties to provide, so that could focus on the important things.... like the image quality :-)

I, for one, am going to wait for red on this one. I like Douglas very much and will buy more stuff from him. However, I think both mounts will be available about the same time and I will give my support to Red first.

I was almost fainting from pleasure when I saw your video on youtube! I didn't know you could adjust the ring on which the lens mount is fitted. Do you happen to know if it can it can be adjusted so that there is 47 mm between the film plain and the lens mount? It would mean I can replace the red mount with my leica lens mount, without having to be too creative! My precious leica lenses, the best 35mm lenses in the world! Please tell me!

best regards,
Hans

I realise that in my excitement I forgot to be clear in my message. The question above was meant for doug underdahl. Dear Doug, I hope you read it and will take the trouble to tell me of the possibilities of the ring on which the lens mount is attached.

Hanselblat - I believe you want to mount Leica R lenses to the RED? That seems to be quite possible as the Leica R flange focal distance is 47mm, or .5mm farther than Nikon. As you know, I've made a Nikon mount for the RED, so it would seem that Leica R is workable. Now the adjustment on the RED seems to be very fine, and probably far less than .50 mm, but that's okay, I will simply start work on a dedicated Leica R mount for the RED.
Thanks
Doug

I am expecting mine tomorrow from Doug: one of the first five made I have been told. It seems that having an early reservation really paid back!:w00t:

Sanjin is your new best friend. :)

Out of curiosity, would the Leica R mount cost roughly the same as the Nikon one?
