Hi!

I want to place the cradle further away from the camera, and not have it on top of it.

Are there any options for longer battery and drive cables?

I know about the battery clip option. I am specifically interested in keeping the battery and drive mounted together on the cradle, and placing the cradle some distance away from the camera.

Does RED sell longer cables, and if not, any plans to doing so in the near future?

Thanks!

RED already has a long cable for the Battery Belt unit they are selling. That means they have a long cable that could work with the battery mounted on a cradle. Therefore, an extension cable should become available for those who want to remove the battery off the camera but keep it mounted on the cradle.

Same with a long cable for the drive. Since the RED DRIVE is susceptible to vibrations and shocks, the customer should have the option to use the drive off the camera (when doing car shots etc).

How hard can it be to offer this option?

The cradle is for use on the camera. There are options to use the battery away from the camera (belt clip, the DC power cable with an adapter - as Geoff pointed out).

However, I strongly agree we need a 10 feet DRIVE CABLE as well. There are many applications when the DRIVE mounted on the camera is not suitable at all. The short cable currently available is simply too limiting.

Absolutely! I do a lot of car shots and need a long drive cable asap. Should be no big engineering feat to put one together...

The problem might be in the max length the cable can sustain the data rate.
SATA are very short due to the limits of the data integrity over distance.

I am not sure what protocol Red is using but this could be the cause for short cables

where can we buy this lemo gender changer of which you speak?

I've been asking for longer cables for awhile now and no one ever shows me where to get them.

and since I've been asking, now people are asking me if I found them. Does anyone even know where to get the lemo connectors?

You can buy more battery plates with connectors for $175 in the RED store. I cut the cable and wired my own four pin from there. Those are the same as the one on the cradle. 6 screws attach it. You can take yours off and explore rewiring it for 4 pin.

Finding a source for the lemo connector would be nice. Since it's only 5 pins it should be pretty easy to solder.

You can order the LEMO power connectors at RED.

True, they are not in the store. But call them or email them and you can order. Just got two of them myself.

Bottom line, we need a LONGER DRIVE CABLE.
Everyone agrees on that.

Please let me know what lengths would be ideal and at what price point you would be comfortable paying. If interest is high and we can create a substantial pre-order list, we will test various lengths and offer them in our line of products.

Lemos are available at mouser electronics and they are VERY difficult to work with - they cost around $22 each.

The 4 pin cables for our Monstercine XL-Remote Start-Stop switches are hand build and have to be done under heavy microscope/magnification.

I got my gender changer directly from lemo in UK http://www.lemo.co.uk/

I presume you can also get them in the states.

Part Number is LEMORGG.2B

Why buy a long cable when you already have one ? Unless you need a really long one.

at last! a real answer. That is EXCELLENT information. Thank you. Wish I'd had it before I bought my battery plate. Anyone want to buy an unused battery plate?

update: not showing up in the lemo part number search but I will try to email lemo and find out. anyone from RED happen to know the part number?

Hi,
On www.lemo.com, the only part that corresponds to the given info is RGG.2B.306.CLM. Is this the part that will enable connecting the 10' power cable to the power cable from the cradle? I am not too sure about the info on the website and there's no picture and hence the question.

Also, is there any performance loss on using this adapter?

Regards,
Ritesh
