  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Lithium driving...sweet!

I'm getting a 240v charger installed...man that will be nice, 3 hours to recharge instead of 8.

I am so addicted to driving on pure electric now it's stupid. I can't stand it when the generator comes on(not often) but it's happened a couple of times. I should be glad I was not stuck without power but instead I was bummed. LOL

Very encouraging - Thanks for the reportage.

I was hoping EVs would be ready when my lease came up LAST TIME- but I've got another year on the Mini... then, definitely going to the EV- very good to hear this one's working well for you! My wife is on our second Prius- and she wants something a little more lux... so I'll be the one going with the alt-vehicle next. If only the Tesla was priced for humans!

What is the lifespan of battery and how much cost new one? ... There is also interesting question if we replace lot of cars with battery one, if we haveenough quantities of rare elements on our planet? But we will find the solution. Future of cell phones is battery less.

The "rare elements" used in the volt battery are not actually all that rare. Problem is, many of the elements are in areas that have a lot of thorium, which is expensive to dispose of thanks to it being mildly radioactive. China, which has much lower environmental standards, doesn't mind digging through the thorium to get to the lithium and other needed elements. If however the west was willing to start building LFTR fission power plants, we'd actually find a lot of value in all that thorium, and the side effect would be that we'd have much better access to those "rare elements". More on LFTR fission power here: http://thoriumremix.com/2011/

Lux? Did you checked hybrids from Mercedes and how small their battery is?

Local sign shop applies a shout out.

This is a dumb observation but it's sorta funny how the utility truck in front of you looks like how people use to think of electricity, that you need a long cord to power it. Haha like this truck has to drive around with you so you can stay plugged in from your home, that would be a lot less than thirty miles.

The ride/drive quality of an electric car is far smoother and quieter then any other mode of transport. I don't care what brand you love/hate this is just plain better.

Take out 500 moving parts and replace it with one and I guess its simple to see why.

If Electric cars don't take off for the cost savings it will be for the ride, trust me this is "luxury" and "refinement" defined. Just think what a Bimmer or Benz will be like. :)

Yes, but there is just something about the ride and sound of a 35 year old Ferrari with 12 cylinders and webber carbs as a daily driver that beats the hell out of smooth and quiet for me.

Enjoy your new ride!

Dave

hahha I'd argue but well that would be kinda like saying the color green was better then blue...LOL

Yea the VIBRATION and SOUND of an engine is going to be a thing of the past, I am NOT saying that is good or bad.

I don't know though...you may come to love the "sound" of rubber burning and the electric "whoosh" that we get with electric.

I really like the whine of a powerful electric motor. It always reminds me of the Japanese car in Cannonball Run.

So not a huge thing but I just got 46miles on 10kwh of power....I have never been over about 35 before today. I guess the warmer weather makes a sizable difference in range. Interesting. :)

That's awesome. The solar panels on my home can produce up to 35kwh on a good day. Which means I can drive for FREE most days. By the way... thanks to your post, I finally caved and bought my own Volt! I'm just finishing financing as I type this.

Ok I have to come to your house and charge, at least one time. :)

How is the ROi on that solar system?

Scrolling LED programmable sign. Ok, maybe I am a geek.

It says, "No Gas" or anything else I key in. :)

You and your Volt are welcome to come over and charge anytime!

You know, I didn't really buy the solar panel system to save money, though watching the meter go backwards always gives me the chills. I bought it as a prep in case the grid goes down for an extended or permanent basis. (Solar Flare, EMP attack, societal collapse, etc). But I managed to time my purchase just about perfectly, and got the maximum number of rebates possible. The installation (with panels, inverters, batteries and battery controller) came to about $31,000 but after rebates, I only paid $11,500. So the ROI is probably about 6-8 years.

I will not go in to have mine "fixed" more dangerous having them take my car apart then the risk of having a side collision with a telephone pole.

3000miles and LOVING my volt. It's no car, i'ts a total change of transportation life. 2200 Electric miles!
