hehe. that's exactly why I'm asking this question.
I'm excited about iCloud.

Although I'm reading various reviews that claim Snow Leopard is a bit faster than Lion ? Anyone care to comment?

So while we're on the topic... can any one confirm/deny that in order to re-install FCP-7 on Lion, you actually have to roll back to Snow Leopard and then upgrade the OS again because FCP-7 will not install on Lion directly?

I think that is FCP 6 that you have to roll back to SL for, not FCP 7.

Now before I go on, all of what I am going to tell you is from TESTING. I am not working in Lion yet, my day to day work is still in Snow Leopard.

Final Cut Studio 3 (FCP 7, Color 1.5 etc) will install directly on Lion. I don't own FCS3 ... never saw a compelling reason to upgrade.

In any case ... you can install Final Cut Studio 2 (aka FCS2, which includes FCP 6, Color 1.0 etc. ) directly on Lion ... but you have to do it manually, which makes it a PITA. The only thing that won't run is the actual installer program, everything else is a universal binary and runs perfectly on Lion.

I tested this ... and it requires you to open all the various files and put them in the correct place. That's not impossible, but its time consuming ... and I'm never quite sure that I got everything installed properly.

My solution? I did a clean install of Snow Leopard with all updates, then installed FCS 2 with all updates, then upgraded that to Lion. Then ... I made a disk image of that.

Now, I can use that disk image in two ways. First off, it allows me to install a "fresh" Lion system on my current Mac Pro. Second ... I can "migrate" applications and data from it to a new Lion install ... and presumably a later version of OS X as well. Now, the only applications that will migrate with that system is Final Cut Studio 2.

I have not yet tested multiple "migrations" say for example, migrating material from two Macs for use on a single new Mac ... or from a Mac and Windows computer: though its unlikely I'll need to do that. I see no bar to that, but I have not tested it.

This is pretty reliable in testing. I assume because the systems have no actual user data or any other software/drivers installed.

Adobe Production Premium CS 5.5 has installed and worked perfectly in Lion - again in testing.

Speed differences ... I haven't noted anything. I have noted that Lion takes up a bit more RAM if you migrate a Snow Leopard machine ... and that might account for the speed discrepancy - or it may not.

This is definitely not the case, I did a fresh install of lion on my macbook pro, then installed fcs3 no problem. Cinema tools doesn't work, just crashes when I try to launch it. This has been reported by other people as well, haven't run across a fix.
