Two Dragons in enroute. Any advice on lightest, but durable V lock system?

I need flexibility and backup. What is the latest and greatest? Or legacy and bullet proof?

Thanks,

Scott

By now are there many better options than going with GlobalMediaPro. In fact, I'd avoid them like plaque for a host of reasons.

I've had a fantastic experiences with iKan v-mounts. They offer an easy to read lcd readout of their voltage life and even the number charge cycles at the press of a button. Switronix are also a inexpensive solution.

Agree PAG kicks ass. The way you can staple them onto each other and use as one big battery and also charge all over night is really ideal for traveling.

As when travel you need to take all batteries in the carry on and you are supposed to have taped all the connectors on the batteries... but with pag you can just pt them in a stack and they stick together and do not need all the tape etc.

The only drawback with pags that I see is that they do not have Dtap. Some people do not like Dtap, personally I hate them, but just so often there is some sort of device that needs to be on the camera that just do with Dtap and needs to much amps to be hooked to the +1 or Vlock module.

But if you got a battery plate with built in Dtap I guess thats a none issue.

We dont use Vlocks any more, bought 8 XL batteries and the XL module and that is also a sweet option for traveling.... The only thing I could complain about is the quad chargers they are built like army equipment, feels like they are made out of solid steel we got two of them... which kind of does not really help when trying to get under the airline weight limits. The pag charger is far lighter.

How about something like this that keeps the back of your camera free for modules... ;o)

You also get one accessory D-tap in the front near the lens mount and one in the back, as well as 2.1 Amp USB power for those accessories that need it, or just to charge your iPhone when you are stuck in a middle of nowhere...

DTAP can be pretty useful if you want to have the option to just throw the battery in a backpack and power the camera with a lemo cable when your walking around.

XLs would be great if they had a lemo or some type of dc output built in.
And agree about the quad charger, its way way too heavy for no reason, and it should have a dc input option like most vmount chargers, so you can avoid needing an inverter.

The newish sony vmounts are worth considering - BP-FL75. They are a nicer size in relation to the dragon body since they were designed for the f55, and they are lithium iron phosphate - so they charge way faster, less then 1:1 - 70mins for 75wh, compared to 120mins for 89wh XL. Down side is 75wh only, and their power to weight ratio is not as good as standard cell vmounts.

where does one find this plate ;)

Only problem I've ever had with a GMP was the one I dropped from 10 feet up onto concrete. I discarded it at an ewaste site but it appeared to work fine.

Peter's solution looks bad ass!

Not trying to hijack the thread but what is today the smallest V-mount battery on the market? Then endura 7S?

I guess everyone has different experiences, but my 160wh GlobalMediaPro batteries have served me from Scarlet to Epic to Dragon without any issues, and were also considerably less expensive than any other battery of that capacity. My only complaint is that the Dtap connector on battery seems to be non-standard and some Dtap connectors do not fit in the pin holes.

I think the GMP 65wh batteries are the lightest V Mount battery that's I've found, weighing in at 1.14 lbs. (525g)

Two REDVOLTs are lighter (2x0,55lbs/249g) and deliver more power (2x37Wh). I wish we could use two on a XL-module, not just XLs. I like my DUAL-module but would love to replace it with the XL. I also think the REDVOLT XLs, with 1,57lbs/712g and 89Wh, are the nicest option we have, especially since the introduction of the XL-module.

But the bulky and heavy Quad-Charger kills it for traveling. And that trickle-charging via the module doesn't replace a charger completely. On top, it needs the big and heavy AC-adaptor... Those are the two reasons why i'm currently looking into a V-mount solutions. PAGlinks with travelcharger look interesting.

Future batteries should have something like a USB-C connector for charging (maybe data-readout too). That could eliminate the need for a special charger. REDVOLT Gen2? ;)

Pag make a very nice travel friendly mini charger. https://www.paguk.com/landing/Micro_Charger and their PL96 battery is 96Wh @ 730g. The other benefit is they can stack up to 4 batteries when on camera and when on the charger. They are also travel certified for what that is worth.
Defiantly going to be my next battery purchase

Yes, those two features are great. But it looks like you aren't winning charging time, when using that micro-charger. They say "charge two fully dis-charged PAGlinks in 7 hours", it's 2hrs 30min for one battery to 80%. Which also means charging 4 batteries will take something like 14hrs?

So in the end its only about not waking up at the night to swap batteries - and well size. Granted, a few of those micro-chargers are probably still smaller and lighter than RED Quad-Charger. ;)
