  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Yes, I know. I just feel like the nice, clean interface of LivePlay would be much easier to work with than these other apps you have to download to make the stream work. They seem clunky...

My very first post on reduser.net goes out to the Live Play system!
I was wondering which possibilities of changing the setup of "Scene & Take" exist.
I also tried the system with giving some users the tab of "Scene & Take" only for viewing. But in the standard setup it's possible to copy and paste the data of one take and paste it to another- even if only viewing is activated.
 
@ Jean - Cost for Collaboration is $0.00. No more in-app purchasing expenses. Our release of LiVE PLAY allows for the full version at the price of $35.00. That includes everything. The reason for this change was partially due to some limitations with international iTunes account management. I will change the copy on the Li website soon.

@ Matthias - Thanks for the heads up. Haven't heard of that bug before, but will include it in our next update. Thanks!
 
Hey Michael,

Any reports/experience with LivePlay breaking in any way from updating to iOS5? Just want to make sure I don't screw myself for upcoming gigs by potentially updating, I assume everything should be compatible though right?
 
Hi Michael, we have a couple of the teradek cubes, but do we need to purchase any other updates to make this work? I know that to get the cube to write files you had to do an update to the cube that cost about $800.00. Is this required or will it work without this. This point isn't very clear. As well on your site you mention it is compatible with all file based cameras, the two I am most interested in is the Sony F3 and the Red Epic.

colin - you need the "remote proxy recording" licence to make the teradek's work. this allows them to put the files on your server for liveplay to see

ok, thanks, I imagine this wouldn't help using the F3, or would the teradek detect through HDSDI the start stop of the clip? Any info on this before I plunk down $500 for the update. (this has had a recent price drop from $800.00) Do you use this setup personally?

i use it with red and it now works with alexa - works very well, have not tried with F3, i don't think it has the needed flags on the sdi stream, or support in the software. but that may change some point (?)
 
LiVE PLAY is currently being tested with iOS5. We will be making small changes to accommodate the new OS. We should be able to recommend iOS5 for LiVE PLAY users in the coming week. For now, I recommend staying with iOS4 if you are using LiVE PLAY regularly.

As for F3 usage, I can say that Rick is correct in that that the SDI stream of the F3 does not currently contain the flags required for automated RUN/STOP and file name transmission. This means for non RED, EPIC or Alexa users, the Teradek CUBE must be put into manual mode, which allows for an operator to perform standard RUN/STOP commands with software interface controls as well as naming conventions.

That said, this hasn't stopped LiVE PLAY from being used on shows that do not shoot on RED, Epic or Alexa. In fact, we are currently servicing one of the largest and most anticipated films in production right now that is shooting 35mm film. While it was somewhat as an initial surprise to us, it is extremely gratifying that this type of advanced IT technology can easily and efficiently be implemented on any show, regardless of the camera.

QTake is being used on shows such as the one I afore mentioned, which enables users to capture both ProRes and H.264 files simultaneously to independent directories. With this design, VTR operators can manage the traditional jobs with the QTake ProRes capture whilst simultaneously and seamlessly transmitting H.264 files to iPads without the aid of an automated SDI stream from a camera. This means there is no additional labor required to service the iPads and the production is able to take advantage of both traditional VTR playback on Video Village monitors as well as virtualized file transmission via LiVE PLAY.

I presented LivePlay last week on an expo and attendees were really excited!
During the setup I wondered if there was a chance of bringing in the option of what is called in web programming "radio buttons": Several buttons grouped together so that there is only the chance of choosing one out of e.g. two or three options. So the user couldn't mark a shot "good shot" and "bad shot" at one time.

This past weekend I was testing the Teradek Cube's proxy record module, and with the Epic it works fantastic. This wasn't a big surprise since I've heard lots of people talking about how well these two work together. The surprise for me was that the F3 when in record / run mode and the Teradek also set to record / run the F3 works too. The F3 does not have the ability to pass file names through the HDSDI, but with some tweaking in the file naming on the F3 and on the Teradek, I was able to get synced file names. While using the F3 is not as elegant as the Epic in this manor, it does work, and could be utilized.
