I am considering buying the Red Scarlet Dragon and so I have a few questions about its lifespan and need for maintenance.

Roughly, for how long can I expect the scarlet will last? I realize specific lifespan is difficult to predict, and so I would greatly appreciate a descriptive answer so I can get an idea on what to expect and make a realistic budget over time.

What can I expect in terms of maintenance? How often and what sort of services will I be required to do?

Kind regards,

It will honestly depend on "how hard you ride it".

I see people trip on HD-SDI cables and lift cameras up by EVF cables. Don't do those things and you'll be a happy long term user and abuser.

Treat the camera, like all cameras, with respect. Keep it clean. Don't whack it too often. Less dinging to the body the better.

To the camera itself. It is indeed a rather tough build quality.

Remember there's Red One bodies out there that have been shooting for 6-7 years.

This is one reason why Red doesn't use plastic for sure.

Ive had mine since Nov 2012 and its seen rain, dust, dirt, blazing sun, skate parks, more skate parks, snow, snowboard trips, hot sweaty rock bars with crazy chicks that think their on GGW, pissed off bar patrons cause your in the way, etc.....
A few times on a matthew car mount in the rain didnt harm it one bit.
No problems yet ;)

get insurance and it will last longer then you need it to and your cameras life span... kat wong at athos comes highly recommended from RU, I use her. warranty covers wear and tear, insurance covers theft, accidents, fires, rentals, fraud, etc. you need BOTH to be entirely secure is the reality.

One Scarlet I work for (as a tech) has ran one mag over and over for like 200 days and has 2,000 hours of run time and has had zero service.

Mine had a board die, including shipping cost me 500 bucks, I had bought used and had no warranty, so paid out of pocket cuz my 90 day warranty lapsed.

I would go for Red Armor, just sprang for it on my rocket x. It cant hurt to be safe. But in all seriousness you probably will never need to use your insurance or warranty..but piece of mind and security is worth it in my opinion
