  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Letus Gimbal

Its a great idea!!

For me, and anyone shooting action/nature, that will be a really helpful little thing.

Its a small thing that allows you to mount the Helix on a tripod. Makes it even more versatile.

The cool thing about is that the idea comes from the Helix community and is directly picked up by the team.

Just wait until all of us have our Helix and starts to set it to use. With the Letus team being so responsive, we'll be able to improve it in no time!

That's probably the biggest advantage Helix hold over the other guys out there...

sound very nifty

Are there any Dragon users in the Seattle area that are also interested in the Helix? When mine arrives, perhaps we can meet up. I would love to get some side-by-side Dragon footage to compare against my camera and in trade who wouldn't want to play with the Helix? Not interested in non-Dragon RED cameras, thanks. Please PM so that this thread isn't sidetracked.

:)

I have to say this Helix is WHAT I REALLY WAS LOOKING FOR. It´s a f***** awesome development.
Can´t wait to use it in different configurations.
As far I understand the 4axis mounting hole is a standard 19mm. So it will mount directly on a steadicam arm. Great!
Another thing I really have to say: The Letus team is so great in communication and listening to input. Once before I experienced this: with actionproducts....and for sure Red.

Actually I think they are accommodating a few different pin sizes; practically on a custom basis. I know a couple of us have 5/8" pins and they are making sure we get a collar that will work with ours.

These guys have been almost scary in how closely they have listened to the market and responded; like machining custom parts overnight when someone suggests a good improvement.

I expect my Helix to ship soon. Actual use will tell, but one of the things that has made me favor the Helix design over all other designs is the fact that the camera is mounted directly between the hands rather than dangling 12-15 inches below. It's like the difference between holding up a 12 pound weight that is mounted in the middle of a straight bar with handles on each end vs. that same weight on a 15" bar that is mounted perpendicular and having down from the bar with the handles. When you go to guide the weight, it feels like the movement will be much more sure when the weight is directly between the hands.

Like I said, actual use will tell the tale. Can't wait!

Can´t wait too. I like the simplicity of the design. And I love the way they organized the power distribution. I hate cables hanging all over. Really exciting times. The first thing I will do is to mount the 1axis on the Sled of my Raptor...but I´ll order the 4 axis config for sure anyway.

Just ordered whole 4 axis kit with every option (over $7k inc original deposit). Just need wireless remote if someone can suggest one.

Order number 34201

Hi all, I just received confirmation that I will be receiving my Helix tomorrow. Two days ago after finalizing my order with James at Letus for a three axis Helix, I was packing up my tripods and heads for a shoot in La Habana, Cuba, one of which is a Gitzo gt4552ts with the new RRS fh350 and ta-3-lc-hk leveling base.

The interesting thing about this combo is that the head accepts an Acra Swiss plate on the camera and the head attaches to the leveling base by a built in Acra Swiss on the bottom into the leveling base receiver. Both positions have a really strong latching lever. This allows me when needed, to quickly put a Cinevate Duzzi slider equipped with Acra Swiss plates top and bottom in between head and leveling base, for a really nice, sturdy, lightweight multipurpose travel rig.

As I removed the head from the leveling base and tripod, I remembered somewhere in the thread that the 3 axis has an Acra Swiss plate.

Wow, I could just slide the 3 axis into the leveling base. What a great place to rest it between takes- secure, locking, up off the ground.

Wow #2 I could actually pan and rotate the camera on the leveling base. Too bad it won't tilt.

Wow #3 I ran to the computer and looked at pics of the fourth axis underslung. Yes! Add a plate to it and mount it on the leveling base- Voila- electronic fluid head!

Back on the phone to James-"what do you think?" "let's run it by Aaron" Aaron- "I'll get back to you"

Two hours later. He had fabricated the needed part. Fanf....tastic! I asked him, do you have a an Acra Swiss receiver that I could put on the Helix mounting plate that would let me quickly remove the camera to use on my shoulder mount rig or fluid head that accepts the plate? "I'll get back to you"

15 min later- "Tag tiny receiver and dovetail kit is what you want"

One last thing- " I saw matte box rails on the JEB video..."we got em- Helix rod adapter"

Is this a a fabulous rig? Is Equipo Helix taking the world cup? They just keep working with everybody like family. Amazing service.

I'll put up pics tomorrow when I get the Helix.

I am supposed to get mine tomorrow as well. Hopefully they get their Scotts straight!
