  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Letus Gimbal

To have a Ronin rep to be impressed with the Helix and admit that it can do much more than what a Ronin can do with almost half the weight is pretty good don't you think?

LOL . . . I'm no Ronin Rep. Just a guy trying to get the best gimbal value for my fellow RED Users. I always intended to keep an open mind on this purchase. I went into NAB thinking that Movi was the answer - left there thinking Ronin was da bomb - what you have done with crowd sourcing your design since NAB is flat out impressive. Who get's to the finish line first with an independently tested product and strong RED User after purchase support is still very much in play. Game on Gimbal Warriors!!

Hienle,

Unsolicited comment (and I may be mistaken as well)

Zeb, to the best of my knowledge, is NOT a Ronin rep.
In fact, he has posted that he was not and received no compensation or special deal from them - he planned on paying the same as everyone else and only hoped to have a unit in advance to fully test it and review it for REDUsers. Seemed OK with that - in setting up the GB, he was first on the list.
He also posted clearly that his goal was to help the community - he did not bash others outside of the cannibals.
Has been polite, always on target.

Did the single word post "Interested" detail any comparison between the different products that could be used for marketing purposes?

Let's try not put words where they may not belong.

Personally, I believe that your product will be an extremely useful production tool. Just as I have multiple sliders made by different manufacturers, I expect I will have different gimbals from different manufacturers. Each may excel in slightly different applications. I'll be on the bench for additional units for the time being - looking forward to testing one of yours out for myself.

It's all good Brother! Any time you see me use the ;-) after a statement please take that statement with a wink and a tip of the hat

To the gimbals: Take your pick of the one that best suits your individual needs - they all have some flaw that is balanced with a benefit.

I wasn't talking about Zeb at all. Zeb didn't even come to Cinegear.

Haha - I think it is always wise to be careful about making assumptions. We can't know who Hien was talking about nor can we know what was said. Hien has been straightforward, honest, open, and positive here. I think he was just happy to hear words of praise from something of a competitive voice.

And being careful and wise is exactly why my first sentence had the caveat "and I may be mistaken as well"

The details, as you also pointed out, that would have avoided the misinterpretation were missing from Hienle's post.

Peace

It wasn't in the details. It was the juxtaposition of reply timing

Brian - Given everything that has gone on with this thread - and with the product development of the Helix - up to now, I just felt the "scolding" tone was unnecessary, even if Hien's post had been about Zeb; which, as we now know, it wasn't.

No big deal as I thought the outcome was somewhat funny, even if it was at your expense.

Zeb's ID changed faster than an unbalanced 5-axis Alexa gimble a few months back. Maybe it was his alter-ego at Cinegear.

Hey guys,

It's only sweet to have a friend to praise it, I didn't intend to hurt anyone feeling and I apologize if I did. I felt it was quite a design journey that we pat ourselves on the back, not a sale pitch at all. If it was a sale pitch, we would reopen the preorder line and a few hundred units would fly out of the shelf even before it's made like the second batch we did for public preorder. We closed the preorder because we don't want our customers to wait too long after they preorder as our capacity is limited to a few hundred units a month. So, again, it was not the sale pitch at all, it was, to me at least, the pat on my back of what the system has become. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

Video of how the system work will be up tonight.

I am disappointed that only the roll axis really works in a practical way with professional Steadicam operation. A tilt axis would have been nice for some things, but the multi-axis can't really mount on a sled, and you can't really operate without the bottom monitors of a sled nor without the gimbal handle being where it should be on the sled, as any experienced operator needs it to be.

If you are grabbing handles right on the Helix, then you are putting all the "walk-y-ness" back in moves and essentially loosing a lot of the benefit of your spring arm and the forces of inertia.

The suggestion I heard from Letus that one should replace the entire sled with the Helix directly on top of an arm post is 100% silly if you know anything about operating or have any experience doing so - besides one would never want to loose control over pan. Whoever they are consulting with to arrive at their designs is not a real Steadicam operator.

I think many of you commenting on this forum may be great D.O.Ps, but are not really experienced Steadicam ops either. I wish Charles Papert or somebody would chime in - I know he would agree with me.
