  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Letus Gimbal

A few questions, and forgive me if these have been answered elsewhere.

1. is the bottom of the single axis a standard dovetail? meaning will it fit into an conner 2575? I know there are not a ton of applications for this but lets say you wanted to get off of the rig quickly and slap it on a head, this would save you from re balancing back to the helix.

2. I see some power ports on the back. is this a standard Epic lemo power connection?

3. do you see a problem using smaller cameras? 5D, C300? will we need to add weight for the motors to act correctly?

4. How big are the motors compared to Movi?

5. Do you foresee a problem with heavier lenses such as Cookes or RPP?

Loving the design, I love the outside the box thinking on it. Keep up the good work!

Phil.

1. The width is the same length with the 1030 small plate. It will work with our Touch and Go plate
2. Power is 2 pins, you can adapt to whatever you would like.
3. No problem using any smaller cameras. Just pick a lower power profile.
4. The motor is bigger and more powerful than the Movi.
5. Heavier lens would create a forward moment to the system. Our release version is a lot more robust than the off the shelf prototype, should be able to handle it no problem.

Thanks for your kind words Phil. Hope this helps.

Deposit placed.

In thinking about this, the value added by Letus is the cad work, machining, assembly and mechanical design.

The 'iPower' motors for this type of rig are $600 for all three. The Basecam 3 axis controller setup is about $200.
As far as I can see, we will not be getting a special version of the firmware. It's going to be off the shelf , correct ?
I'm OK with this. I don't have time to make one myself, but if I did it would be mostly magnesium ( I have a bunch of Mg in the shop ) and I would tailor the size exactly small enough for my specific portability needs.
I wonder when they will actually be shipping the batch for Red user depositors ?

Hotshoe was mounted to the back by 1/4-20, so if you don't want to use it, just remove it and underneath is the 1/4-20.

Please offer 3/8". 1/4" while good for monitor, 3/8" would allow us to mount a handle or cross bar. It just doesn't slip as much. Or better yet why not jut a series of 1/4" 20 and 3/8" holes alternating across the top. It would make for a more secure NATO mount and give us the option to mount accessories with either hole.

How is this done..?
The DJI Ronin claims to have a one button auto tune to set the motors to
different camera/lens combinations...Is there now or will there eventually be similar option for the Helix..?

You can select using the button on the back. Yes the auto tune is in the work.

Hien, what is the belt clip power pack used in your video here: https://vimeo.com/91366669

@Les These are not Ipower motors... even in the prototype it where better and more expensive motors (I think GB85 class motors 300$ a piece). And Hien / Aaron said the motors in the final Helix will be custom and better. And ofcourse you always pay for some development but I think Letus does a Heck of A job on this one... we should be blessed. Especially when you look at the competition. I did my share on doing some fooling around with some own gimbals / boards etc. It really takes up valuable time... you'd better be out shooting. (But you already said that)

@Blair This is powering the Helix, but you can slap 'any' power source on the gimbal. (Vmount plate, lipo)

@Hien / Aaron is the battery belt included in the Reduser Helix deal? Or standard config?

I have a better solution then the belt clip, it is not included in the package, but for early adopters, it is.

That was something we rigged up for the show. It's a Letus cheese plate with a Letus AB battery plate attached to it. On the back I threw my Peak Design clip so I could put it on my belt (https://peakdesignltd.com/store/?c=clips) The coiled cable was a bit tricky so we are thinking about including a longer, non-colied power cable instead. You could even run the cable to a backpack or something that way. Or a neon green / hot pink fanny pack. Go totally retro with it!

Aaron will setup a private chat room so all the early adopters will have a private conversation with us. NDA will be needed as we will disclose a lot of cool stuff.

Nice... LET US!

Hello Hienie,

I pmd you about joining the group buy before Mondays deadline. Should I be expecting a link to pay & sign up?

Thank you,

This is awesome! (I usually hate that word because it is so overused. But, in this case, completely appropriate!!!!)

i don't think I have been this jazzed about a product since the Scarlet was introduced.)

If anyone still needs the deposit/reservation link, just PM me for it. Thanks!

This really looks like a great product and I really like how well Letus is communicating. Due to extenuating circumstances it doesn't look like I will be able to participate, but I do hope there will be a 1-axis gimbal in my future one day. I'm excited to see footage from the group buy participants in the coming months.

What will be the total price for a 4-axis system? Is this available in the group buy?
For using the helix on a crane, stedicam, or a slider (this is a first), we would need the additional 4th axis bracket.
