  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Letus Gimbal

Some pictures to help your imagination how it's used with just the arm and the vest (no sled)

Nice JOb, Keep it coming

This gimbal is slowly winning me over.

Quick question and it could perhaps be answered by anyone that have enough experience.

In Hien's solution for a quick transformation from a support arm, in real life, will I be able to release the camera without pulling the camera straight up? The support arm obviously have a pull force upwards and would just adjust accordingly if I tried to pull it slightly.

I understand that this could easily be fixed with a second guy holding down the arm, but I would really love to do it myself. I am investing in a steadiseg so I have plenty of situation where I might be following talents for a long distance and then want to step off and be able to follow them by foot into places where I simply can't drive the steadiseg.

Im sure that there's something I dont understand or overlooked here. That's why I turn to you guys. ;)

I´m very interested in this Gimbal too. Please put me on the list.
Just one question: If I use the simple horizon 1 axis part, is it holding the horizon until 90° tilt? Or does it start to make, lets say, after 45° weird things?
Sorry if this was asked before, the I overlooked it.
Thanks,
Marc

@Marc - As far as I know from the controller board it will do the 90 degrees. (As far as I an see mechanical it should to)
In the GUI for the controller board you can set the tilt and the 'follow' modes.
Hienle can confirm the specifics

@Dominik - Yes second operator mode is possible.

I am not sure I understand the function of the gold "handles" in the rendering. It would seem you could just operate with the regular 3rd axis handles.

The gold 'handles' are not handles... this was a crude visualisation for hands ;)

What Hienle meant is that the 4th axis / outer frame rests on the arm of the steadicam. And that you can grab the Helix with the handles an control it like a steering wheel.
Hope this clears things up.

Final Weight has still to be determined. At this moment that is about 5 pounds for the 3 Axis.
my GUESS ! = between 2,5 - 3 Pounds. I am almost sure, not more.
Hienle knows this for sure...

Here is a little update as to what we have worked out for a reservation system. We have decided to keep the link to the deposit/reservation exclusive to the REDUser.net members initially. This will give you all a chance to reserve a Helix before it is released to the rest of the world. That will give everyone here a couple of days jump start as a way of saying thanks for all of the great feedback.

A deposit of $795 will reserve a Helix for you. That deposit is, of course, fully refundable up to the ship date. When we are ready to ship, anyone who made a deposit will receive an email along with a $900 site credit to be used toward the purchase of a Helix (any configuration you want). We are trying to gauge initial demand to make sure we are scaling our production up accordingly. This deposit method helps us determine if our projections are on target.

Orders will be shipped in the same order deposits were made. About a week in advance of shipping, we'll let everyone know so they can get final payments in.

So, that's what we have come up with. We think that's a fair way to handle it :) Sound good?

There are still questions to be answered, like price and timing, but where do we go to get on the list?

Will these be assembled in and shipped from Portland?

Me 2, put me on the list! of course....

Fair enough. I wonder how my country customs will/would interpret the device and decide to charge

Sounds great. Just let us know when we can get on the list, and take my money!

Current price is... ONE million dollars!

But seriously...
The 3 axis is at $3,975
The 1 axis is at $2,675

That's the numbers we have locked in right now and will at least be guaranteed for anyone here. Still waiting to hear back on final pricing for the 4th axis setup. FYI, that doesn't include a battery so you would be on your own for that. Everything else would be included though. We are looking at making a custom case too for those who want it. That will probably be a couple hundred bucks additional for a nice Nanuk or Pelican case with custom foam insert.

Everything will be built and shipped from Portland, OR.

For the link to the deposit page, please PM me as we don't want it posted publicly yet.
