  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Just a bit of soldering fun, all for powering stuff from Helix's power module. From top to bottom:

Lemo-6pin (Red)
Lemo-8pin (Red via AP's Proteus module)
Lemo-8pin (Alexa Mini)
P-Tap female (accessories)
 
Will there be an updated version of the helix at NAB?

I need one of these pronto, I just discovered that the right angle Letus Red power cable and the Jet Pack are not playing nice, the port on the Jet pack is 180 degrees off for the right angle of the cable. Do you sell these? any ideas? I wonder if the Jet Pack port can be rotated?
 
Hey Helix users, I can't seem to get rid of a shimmy effect on my bottom motor which wobbles side to side when moving the Helix or bobbles up and down when in suitcase mode. It seems to be an issue with the bottom motor (the one under the camera) anyone else had a problem with this, can it be fixed with firmware of some setting somewhere. I almost wish the bottom motor wasn't there, I'm not so concerned about lateral stabilizing, mostly just need the horizon and the pitch (or up and down) of the camera under control

One thing Letus has got to figure out is their website. I've seen Letus Direct, Letus35, and last year they launched LetusHelix.com (which for the first time seemed like a place that would be easy to get ahold of manuals, firmware, etc) and now that site just redirects to letus35... I just happened to find "letus.net" by googling "Letus Helix Firmware". I'm assuming this is the best/newest place for information, since there is a post from only three days ago... Sometimes I feel like I'm on a wild goose chase!

Apologies for the confusion, Josh. Very understandable.

LetusDirect was a distributor for us (Letus Corporation) and we had a very close relationship with them for years. They had their own website (letusdirect.com) and also created a special one called LetusHelix.com, which was repository for marketing and support information on the Helix. We (Letus Corporation) had our own website called letus35.com, which was focused on shopping for Letus products.

Unfortunately, we had to sever our relationship with LetusDirect, which meant that neither we nor our customers had access to either LetusDirect.com or LetusHelix.com. Consequently, we put up a new website called Letus.net. That is the best place to find information on our products (including our support articles/videos). Some of the links on that page will redirect you to letus35.com for actual shopping at the current time. Eventually all website material will be on Letus.net.

You should put links to Letus.net on your main website by the sales. It's a bit confusing.

Good to know. I ran into the same confusion. However, I must add, that I bought my helix over a year ago and have dealt with Letus a few times for questions, lost holding screws, and accessory purchases. Each time, they have blown me away with their service. They once upped my order to overnight shipping (cross country) at no extra charge so I could have extra batteries in time for a 'surprise' shoot, they have sent me free replacement screws, and every time it was completely unnecessary, but much appreciated.

Their service matches their exemplary product (for my needs) in my opinion. In fact, I'm pretty certain the main reason I'm even able to grab a scarlet-w is because of the work I have done with the helix jr. and my trusty gh4. Looking forward to putting the SW on the helix jr.

I'm looking to connect with San Francisco Helix owners and users. I just purchased one and could really use some help learning the ropes. I've skyped with Letus which was helpful but techie. Be great to shoot the shit with some experienced users so I learn how to use this thing properly. Thnx.
 
Hate to jump in so late to the conversation, but I would love to talk to some other RED owners with a Letus Helix. I've had my helix for a year now, and I've been struggling to see how people use it on a real RED cine setup. If I put an Epic on there, FF (bartech), and teredek, the batteries drain in 10-15 minutes and eventually I start getting some kind of overdraw situation where the juice boxes internal PCM circuitry kicks in and the battery shuts off.

I've been on tech support with Letus too many times to count and have been assured it works with this setup. However I have recently targeted that my bartech seems to be the thing that is causing the overdraw. Anyone have any idea why this could be? Is it just the actual total power draw is too high? I did a little math:

Epic: 60 watts
Bartech Analog: 54 watts
Teredek: 8 watts
Total: 122 Watts

Juice box specs: 14.8 volts and 12.2A which I think = 180.56

I imagine the Letus Helix motors and internal firmware use a good amount of power. Anyone else run a similar setup?
 
I just had the same issue running an Alexa Mini, RTMotion, Tomahawk and TVLogic. Even cycling through 4 JuiceBoxes, we kept getting a decent voltage reading (off the Alexa) only to have a shutdown during a take.
 
Ok so I'm not the only one. I've sent my Helix in twice, had the new voltage regulator chip put in, and they have still said to me "we can't replicate your problem" but the problem has happened on every single shoot I've used it on for the last year. It's at the point if I can't solve it this month, I'm selling it. I feel like everyone claiming it works so great, is probably just using it without FF and without wireless video.
 
@Nicholas Wise - when the system shut down on you did the batteries level lights refuse to shut off, and everything kicked off all at once? Helix, alexa mini...ec?
