  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Let's get this party started! What do you plan to use your Raven for?

A little bummed I missed the midnight rush but just got our order placed.

We are purchasing it to go alongside our Epic. We primarily plan to use it for skydiving and as our crash cam in general. Also very excited to be able to carry the cam around EVERYWHERE with us in a minimal setup. The Epic has proved to be just a tad too large/heavy for this, but I think the Raven will be perfect. The ecosystem feels so complete now.


Very curious what everyone else is planning to utilize it for. I feel like there is just so much potential here for application.

I'll be using it as a b camera. I think it will cut just fine with Weapon and with all the unattended options, will operate just fine without a professional human in constant attendance.

Let no magic moment pass unrecorded.
 
I have small aerial video service in Belgrade, Serbia, but working all over the World. Mostly I was working with GH3/GH4 but since last year I've received many inquiries for aerials with Red cameras.
I made big octocopter for heavy cameras and already worked for few mid/high budget movies this year with rented Scarlet and Scarlet Dragon.
Since there's no many rentals who are happy to rent their Red cameras for aerial work I decided it's time to buy some well cared Red for me. For a few moths I'm following posts at Marketplace but now I think my search is over.
Big welcome for Red Raven in our "hangar".
 
I'm a director not a DP, so I'd use it for:

- lending to my friends who want a C-cam for a Weapon / Alexa shoot

- B-camera on my own shoots when working with my friends who have Weapon or Alexa and using that as A-camera

- Perhaps a lightweight came with Optitron

- doing a little bit of B-roll / 2nd unit / scouting. EG replace my GH4 with Speedbooster and 11-16 2.8 & 18-35 1.8 and Samsung NX1 with 16-50 2.0-2.8 IS. Though I have to say, with the autofocus, the NX1 will probably stay in the mix until an NX2 or mk3 of the Sony a7 cams rolls around.

- perhaps A-cam on lower budget stuff we currently use the F35 and Odyssey 7q+. Have to test it though. F35 is amazingly close to Alexa.

Using it as a b-camera to my Epic Dragon. It will also be my primary gimbal camera and I would't hesitate to fly it on a drone (I've been a little leery of flying my Epic Dragon on a drone). We were able to get our order in during the midnight rush... very excited!

Owning a Scarlet and a Epic Dragon, Raven would have been a small crew camera. Plug a jet pack and power it from the gimbal or drone with only a lens attached.
And of course as a B-C camera when needed.
 
I think the Raven will soon be the absolute best sports camera ever made. With the crop factor you can add expensive canon telephoto lenses that will be absolutely insane once paired with the dragon sensor. Surfing shots with the dynamic range and the speed will be a match made in heaven!

I work on Ski and Snowboard films, and a lot of other outdoor stuff. I've been using the Epic MX/Dragon for the past 3 seasons. I probably still will, but the Raven offers something I love and couldn't afford in the Weapon. Weight savings and auto black shading which will be huge for me in the field! I'm also looking forward to using it for a lot of other work I do already as well. It offers a lot of new features that open up doors. The weight will let me hike farther and faster!

im primarily a director but often i shoot my own stuff too so this will be my personal rig, on smaller projects it'll be the A cam on bigger stuff it'll be the B alongside whatever we rent (dragon/weapon, alexa, etc). im gonna build it into a compact aaton-style handheld rig.
