  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Leica R Sleeves

Brian I'd be interested for Contax, but understand that your first "round" of orders may start with Leica R (which you seem to know better, so would make total sense FYI).

I'm happy to wait and join a "second round" for Contax (along with others), if that helped give you more time to prep, etc.

FYI the lens sizes for Contax are similar to Leica. OBV not identical, but also not world's apart. You may be able to modify your Leica R designs to fit, who knows.

If you need me to send measurements, PM me. I own almost every lens in the Contax lineup, so I I'd be able to give you almost every measurement you needed.

thx

I imagine you're talking 20 units per single specific lens.
I'd be in for

19 vII
24
35 cron
50 cron
90 cron

Checking in on these sleeves again. They are an amazing idea. Even if they stared with Leica R, an didn't get to Contax till the end of 2013, it's still an amazing idea.

Checking In too :) I really can't deside if I shuld do a set of 24, 35, 50, 90 and 135 or invest in all my Leica-R's and do 19 v1, 24, 28, 35, 50, 90 and 135mm, Even thou I allmost never use 19 and 28... Any advise?

Mathias, I think the 19mm is one beautiful wide lens, but if you hardly use it, you might want to hold back - can add a sleeve later.

The lack of feedback makes me think NO to Contax Zeiss lenses...which in reality is probably a much more popular lens option right now on Reduser ;). Me thinks someone should seriously look at doing this for Contax users!

Ok, did some more research and something came up that I think needs to be communicated. As mentioned, the idea of these sleeves is to get all lens in more or less the same dimensions with the same front diameter. AND to be able to put on a light weight clamp on matt box - and that is also the weak part - this matt box needs to be really light, simply because the screws and treads on the leica R mount are not really meant for this type of load ..... the same is with the contax lens. The risk is you might tear out the mount of the lens if you over load with your matt box - were the load limit is I can not say ....

So if anyone is still interested in this project, then send me an email with the amount of lens you wish to convert (Leica or Contax) and I'll get back to you.

Interesting. With Leitax screwed over all my Leicas they look so robust, I never thought a clip-on mattebox with a couple of 4x4 could eventually stress too much the mount.
Sure you can't say the load limit, but I can't imagine this beeing a real problem, as if it where, many lenses like the Canon 70-200 2.8 would be on the ground already, isn't it?

Looks like Brian is considering Contax too, which is very encouraging.
