LEICA R on RED: Pictures

Hi Kevin, there is some Cron vs Lux discussions earlier in this thread, which may be worth digging up but to me there is not a huge difference in performance. I'd say invest in the Summilux if you're after that extra stop for low light and/or more extreme shallow depth of field and it works with your budget. Comparing all at F2, I've found the 35/80 Lux capture more micro-contrast than the 35/90 Crons, whereas the 50 Cron is likely a hair sharper than the 50 Lux at F2. At around F4 and above it becomes difficult to tell them apart.

Great! Thank you for the info. My first lens was the 19mm v1 and my 50 lux should get here soon. I will be sure to take that into consideration, while building my full set. Thanks again!

Hi everyone!

This is not RED related but this is the longets thread i found on internet about the Leica-R lenses, maybe you can help me.

I recently bough this 3 lenses and i'm having troubles finding the right filter thread sizes... Here's what i found but i'm not sure if i'm right. I wan't to order some 77/80 OD fronts and they come overseas, so i don't want to make mistakes...

The overall question on most is... The Leica E55 filter is the same as a 55mm normal filter? Or the E48 the same as a 48mm?

Leica Leitz Wetzlar Elmarit-R 35mm F2.8 - S/N 2787065
I measure 48mm, Leica has a E48 filter....So in this one im pretty certain that it's a 48mm filter

Leica Leitz Wetzlar Summicron-R 50mm F2 - S/N 265280
This is where i have the most trouble. I measure 44mm, wich seem like a really weird filter size. The closest thing from leica is a E46, wich seems like a big difference...

Leica Leitz Wetzlar Elmarit-R 90mm F2,8 - S/N 2537501
Measuring it myself, it seems like a 54mm thread. But i see that Leica dont have E54 filter but E55, is this a 54mm or a E55? Or is this the same?

Hope you can help me...

Thank you!!

EDIT ---

Leica was kind enough to solve this for me. I was going to delete it but i leave this here in case someone has the same problems

Leica Message

- Leica Leitz Wetzlar Elmarit-R 35mm F2.8 - S/N 2787065 à E48 screw-in filter or Serie VII filter to use in the lens hood

- Leica Leitz Wetzlar Summicron-R 50mm F2 - S/N 265280 àE44 screw-in filter or Serie VI filter to use with the filter retaining ring 14160

- Leica Leitz Wetzlar Elmarit-R 90mm F2,8 - S/N 2537501 à E54 screw-in filter or Serie VII filter to use with the filter retaining ring 14161

Yes, the E55 and E48 are 0,75 threads. So if you can find a filter in the right diameter, you can use it, but the diameters are uncommon for usual screw-in type filters.

I recently directed this Music video for international Artist Abraham Mateo & Lerica, i used my set of Leica R Summicrons (Most used was 24mm elmarit) with a Red Dragon (recording in 4k 7:1)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rj5blG04POM
I also used them on a lot of music videos with Arri Alexa Mini and Amira cameras. I´ve just bought a Red Scarlet from another forum user, so i will be uploading more examples of Red+Leica R look ;)

I have been in love with the 28 v2 and have a few screen grabs from some commercials I am producing. One from the 80 LUX.

Great frames Gunther! So how long did you have to wait for this baby pose? :)

Great question, moved a few scenes around when I saw the baby arrived happy. This was basically my first attempt at shooting a few commercials with the Leica R's. The color was a quick grade out of davinci and will get some attention when we finish up on the shoot. The 80 Lux was a bit softer than expected and stopped down to 2.8 ish.

I found a Summicron-R 90mm 27xxxxx $822 and Summicron-R 50mm 32xxxxx $599 great condition. Is this the current average price and should I just settle or will I find them for much cheaper.

For comparison, I got my Summicron-R 50mm here in Canada for $649 serial 31xxxxx in near perfect condition.

Make sure they're posted online first, i.e. a directory on your website.

These look great Zakaree! Love the mood, color and character.
