LEICA R on RED: Pictures

A quick and dirty test for an upcoming shoot I liked the look so I figured I'd post it :). 35mm Elmarit

Mark, that first image is crazy! What is it and how was it done? Great shots!

Cool look Kristopher!

Thank you very much. I used the 19mm V1, 24mm, Cron 35, 50 and 90mm along with the 135mm.

This edit was just posted but the shoot was 2 years ago all on 4 Reds (Epic One, Epic MX and 2 Scarlets) and a mix of lenses.
I was front of house with a Leica R 35-70 F4 on the Red Scarlet I owned at the time.

I rarely post my work here but I shot this all on Leica Rs and Dragon so why not. 19mm v2 and 60 macro for the interiors and all 50mm 1.4 for the exteriors.

Guys, quick question for Canon stills shooters. I have been using my Rs for some dark stage shots. One issue I have is that focusing in low light is very difficult -- it's just hard to see enough detail sometimes. What I have discovered is that adding flash -- either internal or better yet an external flash set to TTL mode -- allows for "pre-lighting" the image and thus easier focusing. I'm sure I am using the wrong terms here, but essentially I enable flash, then half-press the shutter. The image gets brightened to a predicted post-flash exposure, and I can see to focus. I don't actually want flash though, so in my current process I have to cover the flash with my hand. Does anyone know a way to get this extra gain during focusing without tricking the camera using a flash? I should mention all my focusing is through the LCD.

Hey Med, I had that same problem a few years ago on a 5D mark ii as the LCD often displayed a couple stops darker than they were. To solve the problem I bought an A7r for stills. The EVF works soooo much better with this glass... now I rarely miss focus.

First time shooting on RED for myself, after scooping up a cheap little R1MX package and a small set of R's. Great combo— I think Leica changed my opinion about RED overall, and you can get quite a neat look out of these things! This footage may be overly artsy though, I'll have to do a proper test without going full JJ abrams.

I think this question was for me. This was actually a stock shoot. It was all staged for the cameras and meant to look like a behind the scenes of a actual ballet (or the experience of being a ballerina) All lighting was just the house lights with a little bounce and cut here and there. The Leica Rs were great for this kind of thing giving it a romantic look.

Dope Joseph... I would love to see it in 4K or 1080p for that matter. Great work.

I'm looking into a remaster now! Didn't realize it was only up at 720. Blushing over here. Thanks for the great feedback guys!

Great piece Joseph! Made me wanna start surfing again... :)

JOSEPH!! Man that was great. I know a great piece when I start watching, looking at it from a technical perspective, but then I get sucked into the story. This did that for me. Well done.
