  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

LEICA R on RED: Pictures

Hey all! Thought I'd drop this interview my buddies & I shot of Chloe Grace Moretz for Glamour UK's September issue. Shot on Scarlet Dragon with 35mm Summicron, 50 & 80 Summilux.
Also, how do I get the video to display within my post? I added the link to the filmstrip icon but was only able to upload the link but not the video through my iPhone.

question (and don't jump on me Leica are fabulous!)
Do any Leica owners/shooters also have/use Rokinon and what are key differences in 'look'
So for example flatness of field on wider lenses, chromatic aberration, contrast, etc.
I ask as I have the Leica 50/f2 (not Leica R 50/f1.4) and it didn't blow me away compared to Rokinon Cine 50mm/t1.5 (I have full Rokinon set).
On the other hand I have not shot with the Leica in a variety of situations.

thanks a lot Mathias. The pictures are very helpful.

Ok - this is not the 28mm, but anyways:
Here is an old, really unscientific, comparison I did between Canon FD 24mm f1.4 and Leica R 24mm f2.8 - both at f2.8. The FD is quite a bit softer at f1.4 tho...
I´d say they could be quite easily matched...

As expected Leica is colder and with a slight green bias (aka shift) VS Zeiss, Canon FDs (and others) of the same era.

Latest -R lenses coatings (after I'd say 35xxxxx, but depends on the lens) are much, much closer to T* Zeiss color rendition (especially in the magenta/green shift).

I don't like to mix these 2 school of thoughts since on supposedly neutral tones (like grey or white) and skin tones, it could be a tedious process to REALLY match the 2...imho...

Loving these Mark, Been doing quite a bit of cloud work lately myself.

David

Thanks David! As boring as it may sound I could capture clouds all day long.

Some of this footage is making its way into an upcoming MV. Will post the link hopefully in a week or so.

Great look Abe!

Thanks Mark! I still have to post an image showing how I attached my V1 19mm front element onto my 35 & 50 as you requested. My apologies for the delay.

Big fan of this thread for a long time, figured I should finally contribute. Heres a few grabs from a gig this week shot on my Raven and Leica R's.

Trying to round out the beginnings of the telephoto end of my Leica's...

Thoughts on the 80mm Summilux vs. 90mm Summicron APO? If you had your pick...

Annnd to contribute to the thread, here's three stills from my short last year (after color, of course). The first two shots are the 35mm summicron. The elevator shot was the 19mm v2. I'll post the whole film as soon as music licensing clears.

(edit: looks like the jpeg compression is pretty lousy. The originals are sharp and purdy. ;) )

I would say 90 APO hands down.. I've had both 90 APO & 80 LUX. I had the 90 APO first & got the 80 lUX to build a super speed set, ended up selling my 80 LUX to Mark M. The 80 just doesn't inspire confidence wide open to me, I would have to end up stopping it down to f2 get acceptable sharpness & at f2 the APO is just as sharp if not sharper & is much better as far as CA. The copy of the 80 LUX was in great shape btw.

figured I would show something, just got a rental epic mx from red nyc for a shoot this weekend. never shot a red before, I just slapped a 34mm (i think) leica r and firecrest nd on it and went out side, this is unedit 6K footage, popped a color finale ascend lut on it, I posted it un edited because I caught my chickens in the middle of a fight
