I had a shoot in Dezember and January with the Red Dragon and Weapon and used my Leicas. Hope the final Product will be online soon as well.

Maybe they melt and stretch the glass by 15% or so to squeeze out the extra speed ;)

F/T-stops aside I was impressed with how well the 19 performed towards the end on the cityscape at night scene.

I believe they only rehouse V1s and the lack of distortion, vignetting and spectral highlights look great.

Yes, nice image from the 19mm v1, but only thing I'm not crazy about is the purple car headlights. What is the close focus on the 19mm v1 GL rehousing?

Did a lot of work go into matching those cameras? Cause they match crazy well in that test.

exelent question..

How ever I believe that one was red gama 3 and the other was rec709

@ some point Ill have a colorist one light them so they are exactly the same and that is when I feel that it will be a more accurate test.

This thread is amazing. It's so hard to suss out what makes Leicas great, and all these examples are really helping with that. Now that I know there's a place I can rent R's in NY, I'm going to rent a set for my next gig. I've been thinking about upgrading my "default" lens set -- right now I have the Roki Cine Primes -- and was leaning towards the Otus's, but now I'm thinking seriously about Leicas. The only thing that really bothers me is the CA. Other issues, like highlights blooming WO, I can be on board with as what gives the lens character, but CA drives me crazy in my current lenses (or Canon Ls).

One thing I was wondering that no seems to have brought up yet is using a matte box and FF. They're awfully small! Can you fit both? And it looks like the front extends when focusing. Can they bear the weight of a clip-on MB?

Also, Dominik, those model shots are gorgeous! How are you lighting them? I'd love to hear more about your setups!

I used several 77-72 and 72-77 step up/down rings and an 80mm front from Cordvision to add about an inch to the length of the 50mm. With that configuration, I can use both a FF and a MB. I use a swing away MB with a rubber bellows to accommodate the barreling forward movement while focusing. These lenses aren't intended to be used with a clip on.

Ah, nice. I was thinking that stacking step up/down rings might be a good way to get some distance but was worried about vignetting. I guess the only reason to clip on would be b/c of the moving front, so if the rubber bellows fixes that, all good. Cordvision -- just what I was looking for, thanks!

If I may play the skeptic here -- the pics in this thread are gorgeous. But the scientist in me is thinking -- wait. How much of it is the lens, and how much is the high level of skill of the photographer? I feel like I'm beginning to get a feel for the creamy vintageness of the leicas, but I'm still confused about things like color. The color in some of these shots is crazy beautiful. From David's landscapes to Dominik's models' skin tones to Samir's Mustang -- but would the color be just as rich with a Canon? Sometimes I look at an exterior I shot with one of my Rokinons and the color is meh. Do I need a Leica, or just to take better pictures? Maybe I just need to get a 60 or 135 and see for myself.

Trying out 1-2 is a great way to see for yourself with a minimal investment, which is how many of us got started.

Then again everyone I know who acquired a full set were more than satisfied with their investment.
