  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Leica R by ActionProducts

Interesting, I have a set of Leica R's and might be interested if the price is right.

My set is 24mm 2.8 / 35mm f2 / 50mm f2 / 60mm f2.8 Macro / 90mm f2

Quick questions I see you are making these for the f1.4 sumilux but are you also doing the f2 sumicrons. Do the fronts rotate or extend? Cheers, Adam

Keeping this thread alive.

By the way, I asked Brian previously re: the sleeves working for 35, 50 and 90 Summicrons and he thought they should work.

I would now be quite interested in cost, feasibility of the Nikon mounts.

Bring it on Brian!!

Just about there - redesigned the sleeves, so now the front will NOT rotate and give you fully clip-on mattbox functionality:)!
Getting my new 3d printer end of the week:) should have something to show sometime next week.

Addaboy Brian; keep it up!!

P

I'm trying to decide whether to go with Canon L primes, Zeiss ZF Primes, and now maybe Leica R primes. Those sleeves look sweet! Which Leica lenses will work with them? and what's a good source to learn more about Leica R lenses?

Go Leica, best glass according to many tests, even cine zeiss amongst others, check out this thread, http://www.reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?67463-DEC-10-LENS-SHOOTOUT . Not mechanically as good as cine lenses but you're paying for a fraction of cine lenses. There's a lot of info here about Leica R lenses: www.pebbleplace.com
Cheers.

Are these lenses no longer made; so we are looking at the used market? Sorry, don't know much about Leica because I never thought I could afford them. :-)

Still pretty affordable but they are certainly climbing in price over the last couple years.

How's it coming along Brian?

Very much looking forward to these.

Hi Brian,

Any word on the sleeves yet?

Jean
Had to put it aside to get other new stuff ready for NAB. BUT, just pulled out the 3D Model from the printer and will invest a few Hours this weekend:).
Don't expect it to be cheap, but the sleeves now feature a fixed front, so you mount mattbox directly.

Brian

PS: Trapped - all shot on Leica R - in cinemas this Summer! http://vimeo.com/38717244

What is the estimate price for each sleeve? I was planing on cinevising them at duclos until I saw your sleeve project! I am building a kit, so far 24mm 2.8, 28mm 2.8 & 50mm 1.4 :-)

Trapped looks amazing by the way! What were your lenses of choice and what F. stop & lense were you on for the part when he stands up after seeing the girl?

Brian,

Trapped is looking great! I'm very much enjoying perusing through the bts pics on the website. I understand, that like many others, you are busy prepping for NAB, however any further information regarding theoretical price ranges and availability would certainly help as I have to make some time sensitive decisions on cinemizing options for my set. Any further info at all on the sleeves, if possible, would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much.

Thanks! Used the 35-70 2.8 and 70-180 2.8 most of the time. However the last 1/3 of the movie is all 28mm and lower. So I generally used all Leica's 15mm up to 560mm. Mostly shot round 2.8 - 4 and night/indoors at 1.4 with the 35/50/80mm.
The price will be round 500-600 USD / Sleeve. This will feature fixed front and gears on focus and iris as well as new markings. The idea is to offer it modular, so the price could start round 400.- USD. But I'm still waiting for final prices from my mechanics:)..
When I get back from NAB I'll make a first batch to get my 2nd set of Leica's production ready.

Finally found some time to complete the new sleeves! Here's the 24mm 2.8 with a 3d printed sleeve (3d print!!! final product will look MUCH better!)- the final sleeves will be 7075 and have large distance markers. Approx 500.-USD / lens, add 90.-USD extra for iris gear. After NAB I'll be making a first batch for my second set of Leica R's. Anyone jump on this batch will get 10% discount.
I'll also be adapting this concept for Canon lens!

Features:
-Leica R mount (optional canon mount)
-0.8 pitch Gear on Focus
-Fixed front 80mm diameter
-large distance scale
-Rubber grip rings on focus ring
