Hiya,

I'm looking for a solution for transporting our Trost Slider and maybe tripods longer distances. The cameras and and lenses we have in backpacks.

So the goal is mostly nature where I think realistically it should be possible to drag them over hard packed roads, thinner gravel and maybe thinner grass as well. I've been looking at golf bags, duffel bags, but most of the time the wheels are too small or the bag is not long enough. The dream would be if you could fold it as well.

Any thoughts or pointers would be great!

Andreas .. I have had a variety of bags over the years. What I have found is the hard cases stand up. They usually offer the best protection, take a beating, weather resistant and can serve multi proposes. For my Tripod , slider, Audio boom pole, light weight stands I am using the SKB cases when travelling. A couple sizes to choice from. I have both a 37" and a 43" version. Link below. Hope this helps... also found the SKB to be a solid product and cheaper then the competitors.

Hiya Ted,
That is a nice bag, thanks for the tip, I remember looking at them before.
However I'm more looking at something that I would drag along a forest path in a place liks this:

I'm beginning to think that maybe the solution is to have a Trolley and a bag or two on it:
https://www.amazon.com/Folding-Collapsible-Trolley-Luggage-Aluminium/dp/B010NJBKDS

And maybe having straps to bind them together. If you get completely stuck in the terrain because you reach a mountain you could leave the trolley and carry the bags two times.

Any ideas are welcome!

I bought this on craigslist for $50. It works great for my very heavy O'Connor tripod and RED Dragon.

That is an interesting solution. What Oconnor tripod do you have? Is it smooth enough to have lenses in? Probably not I would guess.
Cheers

I've been looking at Portabrace's wheeled bags recently. Some have backpack straps as well (https://www.portabrace.com/lpb-4or-black.html#product_tabs_description_tabbed). And the wheels are removable, so it may be relatively easy to replace them with a pair of kiddies bicycle wheels for rougher ground.

Replacing wheels would be a great benefit. I studied several bags and it seems when the wheels are inside the bag you wont be able to replace, but when its outside it could be possible. Having good ball heads will make a big difference. This bag is not quite long enough for my needs for the slider, but almost.

Currently what I do with the tripod I have a Gitzo 5543 tripod together withe Sachtler 20 Video head. That I can fit fairly easily in my Osprey 105L Zenith. However the proper legs for Sachtler 20 I cannot fit in anything so far.

After looking for a few hours I almost gave up on the bag with wheels. This "beach lugger" seems promising.

You need to look at Bike Carts, for instance: https://burley.com/product/travoy/

That looks interesting Tood. Doy you think it would be good to drag by hand?

Burley Travoy

Very nice, could see a lot of applications. Limit of 60lbs (27kg) might be a factor.

That model is designed to function as a hand cart. Both the Hitch and the top handle have grips for pulling by hand.

This cart should be suitable for what Andreas spec'd out in his original post.
This is definitely not suitable for hauling generators up forest paths... ;-)
If you need to haul more equipment, you
could consider something like this Kyboka Cart:

Maybe think out of the box (or rather, in a different purpose box '-)

I've got one of these that is 38.9 x 23.1 x 24.3 inches and carry tripods, tripod casters, green screen frame and other stuff. I really like that it has a rail on top to tie down another smaller box (I have a Husky brand box for this and I even have a smaller Keter box that sits on top of the Husky when stored.

I bought the Keter off of Amazon a few years ago, but recently bought the other two off of Home Depot (delivered free to a store near me but it takes a few days to arrive) for a better price than I was finding on Amazon.

But if you need to haul up to 500 pounds of equipment, you can get one of these for about $150.00:

I pride myself on being a technology consultant ;-) Finding the right technology to solve a problem.
It is funny (and sometimes profitable) how most people equate technology to electronics/computers and overlook simple solutions...
