I am looking for an experienced visual effects group/company/individual to work on effects in a short film. This is very urgent and for an immediate start. The film has already been shot and edited. The footage is primarily RED MX Apple ProRes HQ with select shots done with a 5D 1080p.

Due to the confidentiality of the project, I can't post too much information publicly but will give interested parties the info via PM. Below is the info I can give here:

1. Sci Fi Action genre
2. Paid work, but set budget (not high)
3. 4 week turnaround
4. 12 minute short film (27 effect shots ranging from very basic to more complex vistas)
5. Must be able to complete job in the set time and to a high standard ie can work fast but well
6. Advanced colour correction skills a bonus.
7. Must be able to submit a demo reel OR have access to previous work in VFX to show.

Benefits

1. Project is a promo for a feature and is going to be watched by studio execs. Producers are already attached and the film is essentially in development. You will be credited as the effects artists/company in the promo and it WILL be seen by people that matter.
2. Depending on the quality of your work, you may be enlisted for work on aspects of the full project and other ancillary productions connected with it.

That is as much as I can say here.

Serious VFX people only. Even if you are not a VFX person, but can recommend an artist or company that would be right for this based on the info above, let me know. Please read all these points carefully BEFORE contacting me about the project to make sure you are okay with the info and are capable of delivering. This is urgent and I would like to talk to people ASAP about this project.

Hi there: You will be taken more seriously if you realize this is a REAL NAME FORUM and you risk being banned unless you request the change here. http://reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?32432-Real-names...

2. I think the lack of response is more due to benefit #2. We are not in LA but could easily handle this job... save you state in 2. that whomever does this work MAY get the feature work... which usually means THEY WONT.

I cant speak for everyone but I usually do these (spec reel favors) AFTER someone has already paid me fair rate for other work. This is a business of relationships and I highly suggest you look for the right VFX team
to collaborate not only on this teaser... but for the feature film.

If you want people to Share the risk - then please strongly consider Sharing the Reward and I promise you more people will respond.

Good luck

I can't post the full details of the project on here so a number of the questions you state are actually not exactly what they might seem. For example, this feature has ancillary web based shorts that I will personally control and can decide who I do or do not work with. Again, these details are private as a lot of the negotiations are still being made. I came to the site because I know the standard of working professionals here is high and I need a quick connection as I am new to LA and don't have the networks here that I have in Europe and the East Coast.

As for the real name issue, I joined when the site started in 2007 having being urged to by fellow DVXuser members as I was a member of that site since 2005. I didn't just arrive here and refuse to post my real name. I simply transitioned my user name from DVXuser to here and I have gotten many jobs done on this site and worked with numerous professionals here without problems.

I understand if you have reservations about my post based on anonimity, but I think your feeling I am not taken seriously for that is in accurate. You can view my thread history to verify I only post for serious work or projects I am involved with and have freely given my identity.

As for this job, I can outsource this out of state but I would prefer to be able to visit the artists and discuss and work with them as time is relatively short. I have already gotten messages about it so I think the post is having the desired effect. Note I did say PM me for more info so me bumping the thread with any info? doesn't mean I don't have any.

Thanks for the response though and your point of view. I am not discrediting it as completely invalid.

Back in '07 when you joined, there was no real-name policy in place. But there is now. Best thing to do is to stop by the Real Names thread in the Recon forum and put in a change request there. Do put your name in your sig ASAP though. Seriously, it might be a good idea.

In regards to your job posting, I don't see anything wrong with it. You know, never hurts to ask. In your details, the combinations of #'s 2 and 4 (low budget and fast turn-around), could steer a lot of people away. Of course if they're really interested, they would contact you to find out those details before passing on potential work. Anyway, good luck.

Okay thanks.

Thanks to all those responding to this job via PM. It is much appreciated. Short notice, but hopefully I can get this out the gate in the next few days.

lots of talented users in LA rokoko. I'm sure you will do well. Thanks for creating jobs in these times really. Best of luck and much success.

I have a decent number of offers and leads now. In the interest of time I think I am going to cut off receiving offers after Wednesday 8th June which is when I want to make a decision on who to go with and start the work. Just a heads up as I am not sure if I can close threads myself.

I find it rather rude that you don't post your full name, even after several people has notified you that this is a real-name forum. We are all without a masks here, and you should also take it off. Sorry if you find my pointing finger offensive, but honestly - as a reader, I'm rather provoked.

And I feel rather insulted that rather than give a fellow member the benefit of the doubt, you and others jump to the negative conclusion that I am willfully withholding my identity. If you had taken ten seconds to read this thread, you would have seen why my real name is not on here, would have found a moderator tell my why I slipped through the cracks AND as someone else pointed out, you may have found that as soon as the mod alerted me, I then requested to have my name put up. Honestly, your attitude and that of others that instantly jump down the throat of those who may not have intentionally infringed on policy here really puts the forum in an unfriendly and poor light. There was really no need for you to address me in that manner and ironically, you are the one that was rude.

okay children.

tom - best of luck finding a team. in the future, allow me to advise thinking about a team before you start a project when you know there are visual effects involved. 27 shots with a 4 week turnaround? time, money, or quality. time's already been sacrificed, you're going to have to sacrifice another or fix the time issue. i'm sure you have some good reasons, and you don't necessarily need to defend or justify yourself, but for your own sake and for others who do the same thing... plan for post-production before you get there and everything will go much smoother with less stress and less expenses, and i guarantee you will end up with better results. just a friendly suggestion for anyone who cares to listen. good luck!

I would kindly ask now, if you are not interested in this job or recommending, no need to reply on this thread. Thank you.

sorry, didn't mean to offend, it's just a constant problem for people that work primarily in post-production. there are a lot of high expectations, and not many realistic ones.

PM me if you're in desperate need and able to rework the time issue, and i might be able to make some suitable recommendations, as i'm personally tied up at the moment on other projects. also will also need to know privately anything you can disclose as to the basic nature of the shots/work. and if it were me giving a quote, i would want to see it. as i said, i wish you well in your movie-making, and i really hope you can find a good team!

It's fine. I just find it peculiar how so many negative or critical replies are made to an honest attempt to give someone here paying work and collaborate on what we are all in the business of. Making films. Hopefully still for the love of it. I really am saddened that some folks first recourse is to find fault rather than assume the best and either try and help or refrain from commenting if they have nothing helpful to offer. Anyway, to each his own.

Also, I do have to say, if you start off a response by calling grown adults children, they will inevitably take some offence at the condescension even if it was meant without malice.

ROKOKO Fix you name! You are asking for a ban especially since the Moderator already asked you to do so. You're not sounding very professional here, seems you've got something to hide.

EDIT: Just saw you've requested a name change. Thanks!

in my defense, you guys were being a bit childish. i behave like a child sometimes too, it's okay. sorry you found so much negativity, that doesn't help bring out the best in any of us. we're cool though, thanks. and again, best of luck. make some movies.

oh and if you don't already know about it http://vfxjobs.com is a good one, and you might find some others to post future job listings.

Don't really know what to say. I'm very surprised.

You shouldn't be surprised... especially if you've done any kind of filmwork. People like to forget where they got their starts - with the menial underpaid jobs that come in the no-lo budget fare that they wish they never did. But, without it, they'd never have gotten where they are. These are the types of projects that challenge. Sometimes they're fun, but usually people take them to get their starts.

Everyone complains about them because they THINK they're not getting what they BELIEVE they are worth. I know. I'm guilty of it too. I'll be lugging gear in the hundred degree summers, wondering what in the world possessed me to say "yes" to the gig - No matter that I'm getting more that the standard rate (even if it's only a few bucks per hour more).

Get used to it. It's going to happen. People bitch.

Especially when the money's tight.
