  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

KOMODO....

Really glad that people start making support designs for the Canon 0.71 focal reducer.

Thomas, Vance and Christoffer

I think more third-party companies will come up with their own solutions for both identified and still yet unidentified needs for the Red Komodo.

"In this video we will test RED Komodo 6k camera. Also, In this scene we are trying to make cinematic lighting setups with help ACE 650 and ARRI 1200 HMI light sources.
RED Komodo is very compact and light camera, it has impressive dynamic range, but is the one problem...it is a noise with dark key light set."

Why did they do a half res premium debayer? Makes no sense when everything else is very detailed for a camera test.

Christoffer,

I thought the same thing. Maybe it had something to do with the capabilities of his computer. Or maybe he thought that by not debating in Full Res. Premium that he could negate some of the noise he talks about from the Raw file with a lower Debayer setting. Maybe he was simply unaware of the quality different from using Full Res. Premium and just used the setting that played back the R3D file the smoothest on his machine. Who knows really what he was thinking.

Also interesting having his fellow student as a focus puller which Fstop they had on this dark frame.

Alex,

Maybe you could inquire for us?
Being there, usually it goes like that: Lets make one more take, Okey another one, Ok the last one. F.ck it lets close the aperture, its a good camera we will deal with it in post.:toetap05:

Alex,

That sounds like most of us at some time or another. I think, like Christoffer mention in a previous comment, if the full Res Premium debayer setting had been used along with exposing for 800 ISO and Black Shading when appropriate he probably would have experience less noise in his image. However, us "second-guessing" someone else's results is always easy.

Red Komodo

Bad song and dancing aside, the image looked really good. Continues to show how much the grade plays a roll in and how important it is to the final look and feel of the footage.

Christopher,

I think it was the grade and maybe, from the look of the foreground and background compression of some shots, more standard to telephoto lenses being used. Everyone and their baby brother seems to be shooting with all wide angle lenses with the Komodo, especially the Sigma 18-35mm lens.

I think with the pairing of more standard angled lenses with the Komodo and with better grading we will see more cinematic imagery from the Komodo. No more cropping of images from wide angled lenses if possible.
