  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

"This video was shot with the Red Komodo 6K camera. For lenses I used the Canon 24mm pancake lens, Canon 35mm f2 IS, and the Canon 50 mm 1.8mm. For lighting I used the Aputure 300D mk ii and some small Aputure LED lights."

Yes and no.
Formfactor and codecs : no
Sensor technology : yes.

I do THINK that the pointer is the global shutter that performs almost as well as a rolling shutter. (according to Jarred, less than half a stop less of DR compared to Helium 8K, and a lot of comparison video with other RED Cameras tend to support that claim)

The formfactor is a niche formfactor made for specific shooting scenarios. And the Redcode Raw inside the Komodo uses a different compression method (DCT instead of DWT in DSMC2) because of the processing available in that tiny body.

But that's just MY personal opinion ;)
 
Started a Film Diary on January 1st, shot nearly exclusively with Black Komodo. Some Dragon shots here and there. Gun and Run, Quick and Dirty turn around as I still have to work filming, editing and producing for others. It's been a good way to stress test the camera in different ways.

Day 3, more fooling around with Komodo. I have a very minimum setup, and most of the times doing this film diary, I don't have time to attach or boot my iPhone 6S I'm currently using as a monitor. So mostly using the Komodo screen to expose and focus. Not the most comfortable, but absolutely doable. Love RedControl, and just got the RedLink and loving it

Hey, I am curious how you get the rights to use the music by another artist like that? We have looked in to licensing the rights for a few projects but major songs like this were like $50K+? We looked in to fair use too but that only worked if we would play stuff in our home and not sharing with other people. Curious how you get the rights for it? Thanks.

Plenty of people who put any music on their videos without knowing about licensing. So I would guess they don't have a license since that video doesn't look like any big-budget commercial.

There's a guy in the White House that routinely uses music at major events without paying rights fees AND despite the artists vociferously objecting to him using them at all AND despite being so ignorant that he doesn't realize Born In The USA is an antiwar song.:001_rolleyes:

Gotcha, defiantly not legal to post that stuff if it is not licensed. I work for a company that has been sued a couple of time by producers not paying attention to copyrighted material that was infringed upon, so we are extra careful about graphics to audio.
