  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

KOMODO....

Jay,

Not that I am away of . I was comparing the price -to- performance of the Komodo to the Dragon-X with consideration of the Hydrogen Discount for a select few which I believe is still $1000 off. Jarred will provide any new update on the Hydrogen discount.

Low light and autofocus test footage with the RED Komodo

"Yesterday I met up with Moise Nicolas and the lovely Jennifer M'Koma to shoot a little #REDKomodo / #BMPCC6K comparison. I also took the opportunity to test the #autofocus capabilities of the Komodo while on the Glidecam, let me know what you think. The final comparison video will be live over on
Moise's channel soon."

RED KOMODO | CONTINUOUS AUTO FOCUS TEST | SIGMA 50mm 1.4 | Middleburg, Virginia

Shot on Red Komodo and Red Helium cameras. DJI Mavic Air 2 for drone shots. Irix 15mm, 45mm, and Sigma 150-600mm lenses.

I see in the video like a Stabilizer or something that makes tiny jitter / shakes on the pixels..

Any thoughts what that might be?

Alain,

In the top video the youtube poster said that He/She only used minimal stabilization

here are His/Her Notes

RED KOMODO
Continuous Auto Focus Test
Lens: 50mm Sigma 1.4 Art Series
Hand Held Lightweight set up
Shot quickly with minimal stabilization
and color correction. Was incredibly impressed with the Auto Focus.

That ^ was a really concise, informative "general thoughts" video with some nice footage to boot!

However, this v footage is really not so great. The above video was uploaded to YouTube in 4K and looks great. The video below was uploaded to YouTube in HD, and maybe that's one of the reasons it does not hold up.

Micheal,

Yeah, I don't know why people get a 4k,6k or 8k Video camera just to upload in 1080p on youtube or vimeo. I can't remember the last time I posted anything lower than 4K UHD.

I posted it as one of those videos that will go live at a certain time without seeing it first. I don't think I would have posted it if I had seen it beforehand. Hopefully something can be gleaned from it.

This one is playing in 4K for me on Chrome and Firefox on a Windows machine.

Aaron,

You're right! I was viewing it in the Microsoft Edge Browser. In Chrome it is in 4K. I forgot I was using Chrome for a reason. Plus the 4K upload probably hadn't finished uploading yet.

You're welcome Alain! I think it was that and "maybe" the shutter speed selected, maybe.

Being able to color match Komodo to DSMC2 with a simple tweak, KOMODO becomes a monster on low budget Sets with with DSMC2 as combo, for very little extra money...

Alain,

For $6000 you get the Red Raw Codec, Global Shutter, 16bit color, dynamic range that's slightly less than or approximates that of the Red Helium in a small compact body. Next, you get low latency interoperability with the Red App for damn near all functionality of Komodo plus on-screen touch operation in the camera body. Like Jarred mentioned much earlier in the beginning of this thread, it's in a class by itself.

Just wish the discount models go into production soon. So eager to build up my new camera infrastructure.

Christoffer,

Hopefully that will be coming soon for you and all the other guys who qualify for it, making the Komodo an even better deal than it already is.

RED KOMODO + $300 lens

"Until I can get my Komodo on set, I simply unwrapped it for the first time, stuck on a $300 Canon 50mm and shot this."
