Wow!
Well I’m in the Sunshine State... Would be willing to call up some of my model friends and test how it holds up in crazy high humidity while taking some great looking footage 😉

Jarred we have an official Canada-South Africa co-pro going next month, and I will be taking my two Helium 8K’s. We’re shooting in the jungle, both above and in it. Some amazing action sequences with stunt guys out of South Africa who did all the major stunts on Tomb Raider and Paul W.S. Anderson’s Monster Hunter.

A Komodo would be so awesome for some of the scenes we’ve already planned. We’ve fully scouted. Locations are breathtaking...waterfalls, jungle valleys, and abandoned hotels with trees growing up from the ruins.

Looking forward to motion control setups and the stop motion possibilities are getting me excited.
Any opportunities to test drive sounds awesome, contests are fun.

Would be so cool!
Something along the lines of the Houdini program maybe?
Parties willing to shoot stuff AND give feedback for alpha/beta testing.
I’d be very much into that.

+1 here... and I'd also be up for writing a review of it for a journal that actually caters to the film industry instead of generic clickbaitery ;)

I'm also discussing timing for a trip to Taiwan to visit (and train with) one of the Shaolin grand masters (his family fled the mainland and brought the art with them)... that would an interesting person to make a mini documentary about... ;)

I'm all in. I have several really small almost no budget short films to shoot and I live near Cannes if you want the camera to go pick some images of the Croisette :p

You can control Komodo wirelessly from any phone ( in fact that was actually the only way to control the first komodo prototypes) , but you can not wirelessly monitor ( i.e. watch a video feed ) from your hydrogen or any other phone. I know thats been a thing that was miss-communicated with the Hydrogen many times.... but it was never a real thing .

well, that's put to bed.
it is slightly confusing as being so small and rig-able that wireless monitoring like sony or gorpro has wouldnt be possible, when i shoot a personal project on the sony, i just have the director or talent download the app and they can monitor the shots all day on their phone or tablet by clicking on the cameras wifi channel. yeah, it's not perfect, has a stutter one in while but good enough for a look. I personally found it helpful when rigging the camera in a crazy place, i mean i even have it with my Arlo security cameras!

We have two non profit projects we are working on and donating our time for free to make epic videos for them. One is for Adoption and one for an abused women rehab center. While we do have two 8K helium in house, we were going to use a Sony A7III due to the super small crew involved ( 2-3 people max) and the fact that some of it is just going to be run and gun with a small gimbal. We'd love to use a Komodo instead and put it through its paces to see how it handles an indie production while still delivering something high end looking!

I'm pretty curious to check this thing out. I shoot a ton of esports content and was on a gemini for a while but ended up switching to the BMPCC4k mostly for size with the long unpredictable days. if this can delivery where i need it i might have to jump back in. seems interesting so far.

Hey Jared, so Komodo will shoot 6k Redcode and sell for $5k if you have a Hydrogen.

Why would I spend $22k on a 5k Dragon kit or even $27k on a 5k Gemini kit?

It's a good question.. and in one way it's easy to answer and another way it's not. It all depends what you are shooting.

All the DSMC2 cameras are full capability cameras... full connection options ( if you want them ) , modularity, features, and more horsepower.

For the film guys still around, It's kind of like comparing an ARRI 435 to an ARRI 235. The ARRI 235 is an awesome little camera... And it could very well film a feature. But that's not what it was designed to do, and almost every higher end production that used the 235 used it to compliment a big brother camera.. the LT or 435 etc, mostly for the size. The 435 and 235 are good examples as well because of the frame rate limitations... The Dragon-X will beat Komodo in framerates. But the Komodo Size... as small as DSMC2 is... opens up a whole different world.

And the Komodo does do some things that the DSMC2 cameras can't.. but again, in a complimentary fashion.

Of course... you can shoot an entire feature on Komodo if it fit in the application... Soderbergh just did. That's why its an interesting discussion... it really depends what you are shooting and what you need from your camera.

As I said before.. I don't think Komodo should be anyone's first camera. The lower price point just throws it down there in that group but that really isn't the motivation for why we built Komodo. It was designed to fill a void at the highest end of production, But the price is going to open it up to a whole new market that may look at it differently. It will be interesting what the ratio turns out to be.

Jarred-

Thank you for clarifying that. Shame about that but fascinating that you built phone integration in at such an early stage. Sounds like both weight and volume were a huge priority in development. Very cool for flexibility.

You can thank the Hydrogen program for that... Once RED took over their camera phone integration moved to the top of the list. But the reality is it really is the best solution... for the very reasons you just mentioned.

Okay so the frame rates won’t be as high as Dragon but ae you expecting it to have the same 16.5 stops of dynamic range?
