Yep, I let that slip on FB a bit ago, just an under the radar project for the moment, but I have a real one in the flesh already.
PL to RF mount with a slot for the same existing revolva cartridges.

Not sure we'll do EF to RF the same as that job is covered reasonably by the very cheap and handy Canon EF-RF with vari ND. Its chintzy as hell, but cheap and works.

ninja... that would be awesome.

Looks like there is a GDU side handle of some sort attached. Very nice.

yes sir.

Would be awesome if either of you take care of EF to RF also

Maybe I will, but it’ll be later on my list. EF does at least have an ND Mount solution.

Electronic ND cartridge done properly is higher on my hit list, while I’m letting things slip.

Is there a limitation which lenses can be used? Like ULTRA prime yes and old zooms no.

Mark Toia on FB mentioned how much he loved the small high quality EVF on his mirrorless MF fuji camera and prayed a solution was coming for RED to address the bulkiness of current EVFs.

It sounds like you guys also let something slip about working on a small EVF solution?

Please yes! Tiny footprint EVFs like on mirrorless and Canon cinema line are a big thing for a lot of us.

The built-in VF’s on the Canon’s are a few steps too far. I hate them for two reasons: 1) Image is way too small/low quality and 2) the movement/adjustment is way too limited.

If someone is going in that direction, it should produce an image through the diopter, size and quality wise, at least equivalent to what you’re getting out of a Zacuto Graticle or Sony or Panasonic OLED and it should be on a small, low profile mount that can bring it at least several inches away from the back of the camera, if wanted, and pivot it UP and DOWN. Maybe something Zacuto Eye sized, but better cable management/connections.

Will the Komodo have "REDCODE Burst" "Multi-Shot" and "Motion+Stills"?

I'll be happy if the Komodo has a dedicated stills mode and the same beautiful color rendition of the Helium. That would convince me to ditch my Sigma for it :)

That would be incredible! I really want to use the Komodo as my all around camera, it seems like it will be a perfect fit for me for my A-Cam, but i think it would also make a great companion to my EOS R for still images... I really dig the medium format form factor especially paired with the GDU side handle and a monitor laying flat over top of it... my dream! I really hope pre-orders go live in January (or sooner!)

I agree.
I miss the “S” from the DSMC concept (Digital Still and Motion Camera) from my current ScarletW because it’s too heavy to carry it around.
And, as someone mentioned, to get back some sort of sync with flashes/strobos (as the DSMC1) would be awesome.
But, so far, everything around this camera sounds awesome.

Good work. RED!!

That's what I'm thinking... transition to using a Komodo for portrait and fashion and mountaineering, and get a Chamonix 4x5 for landscape photography :)

Have you tried the Fujifilm GFX 100 ? EVF quality is great and it rotates and pivots in all directions you need. That's what we're talking about. A flexible high quality small form factor viewfinder. Perhaps the cinema canon EVF isn't high end but it's the concept that we're after. And in a pinch the canon works fine for added stability and shot reference.

Bulkier EVFs can be great if you shoot all day with your eye attached to them, but with the great daylight viewable monitors we have today a lot of us spend significanltly less time looking through our EVFs so bulky solutions don't make sense anymore. I have the gratical eye and it'd be monstrous on the 4x4 Komodo cube.

Canon's EF-RF ND mount has a big disadvantage that it doesn't got to 0 but rather lowest filtration is 0.3 - which is bound to frustrate when you move into low light situations on the run.

The ultimate would be a Revolva RF-EF-S bundle (ND 0 (clear), ND 0.6, ND 1.2, ND 2.1).
I imagine this would be super attractive to soon to be Komodo owners, let alone other existing RF camera owners.

A mount like this could live on the camera and be the ultimate ND solution for low profile, light weight shooting.

Make an effective electronic version? even better! :willy_nilly:

new Komodo post on Jarred's IG! I am SO ready to hear the final specs. enough with the teasing already. ugh.

In Phil Hollands FormatCompare, the RED Helium s35 8K FF to KOMODO 6K FF, the Helium appears to have a larger sensor? :skep:

by 0.90x

I thought Komodo was LARGER than the Helium sensor...

There was a mistake on the format compare for a minute that you might have seen, but Phil got it corrected literally within minutes of me notifying him. Helium, Dragon 6K, and Gemini 5K are all in that S35+ area whereas Komodo is closer to the S35 side of things. Komodo is going to have an easier time with S35 glass.

Helium is 29.9x15.77 whereas Komodo is 27x13.5. Size was stated by Jarred a few pages back. Don’t think anyone ever said it was larger.

Close. It's 27.03 x 14.25mm not 13.5.

sorry that upsets you but it's relevant as the new SDKs support Komodo. If seeing Komodo on my instagram seriously makes you upset, let me know your instagram handle and I will force unfollow you.
