Komodo X + Red Epic W 8K

I was wondering if these cameras match well. I have two 8Ks and wanted to either: Sell my two and get three Komodo Xs. Or keep the two Red Epic W 8Ks and have the Komodo as a C cam. Anyone have experience with this?

Any advice is welcome.

I love that combo. Just done a feature. Obviously Monstro still has an edge in Low light wich you can push to 6400 iso with the LLO without problem. Komodo-x is more an 400-800 iso camera. Don't push it more than 1600iso

Thank you. This gives me the confidence to buy just one Komodo X. I still want to keep my 2 8k's epic W's.

I own and love the Komodo X. But I will just say: if you haven’t already, spend some time with it first to make sure you like the trade-offs. It all depends on what you’re doing, of course, but, compared to the DSMC2 cameras, you’ll spend money (and time) chasing stability solutions for mounting lenses, I/O, and some other things like that. (Though the locking mount does improve the lens situation quite a bit.) And you may or may not be happy with the touchscreen control system, as well as the different compression scheme that results in larger file sizes.

All that said, I think the image quality is impressive and the size opens up a lot of possibilities. And the Komodo X offers a lot of nice improvements over the original.

Finally: I haven’t shot those cameras side by side, so unfortunately can’t answer.

No, I have never shot with the Epic W 8k (or Helium, for that matter). I have used Scarlet W, but not at same shoot with a Komodo.
I do imagine that the output would be pretty matchable if you’re using the same IPP2 color pipeline with both cameras, if not 100% identical—but others will hopefully have direct experience to support that.
