  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Komodo shipping?

Same here. Most would not see shooting everything on a 6K Dragon-X while waiting on Komodo as a big problem, but DSMC2 rigs can get quite complicated and heavy...well, they start out heavy and then get heaviER. Looking forward to getting Komodo and keeping it minimal. The little guy will be used almost 100% on a gimbal and slider, with the Dragon doing the handheld and locked off duties.

Yeah, in spite of how minimalistic I've kept my DSMC2 rig, it's still quite a bear to stuff into a backpack along with a full suite of survival gear (never mind adding climbing gear to the mix).

Well I hope you get your Canadian passport soon too as that is a very important essential!

Exactly... where I live there's basically no film industry, and most of the US film hubs are still buried under covid cases while BC production is coming back to life...

The express entry visas based on skilled labor are a no-go right now because they all require language proficiency tests that are only available as in-person tests... and the only ones that I and a friend of mine who is also looking could find are being administered... in BC. So you need to be able to get across the border in order to take the test that will let you across the border... unless you can furnish a Canadian provincial birth certificate that proves that you are Canadian born and send that along with a bunch of other stuff to Canadian passport services. :)

Yeah the Epic - W is a beast! They say lighting is everything right?

Totally it is :)

And yes, the Epic-W is a beast... and hats off to Graeme and Red's sensor nutters, because the Helium color is beautiful.

I will do some Wedding videography and some travel vids (if we’re allowed to travel again)

And to film some passion projects like short films!

Both reasons for wanting to move to Canada... where there's less covid, and whose citizens haven't been banned from 95% of the world... :cursing:

That's all quite interesting. Since I'm a one man band interiors photographer I have little interest in which film industry is doing what and where, but regarding Covid it'll either kill us all or largely go away.

Either way it obviously doesn't observe borders so even though BC might be all sunshine and roses right now doesn't mean they won't get hammered next month, and I'd hate to be stuck abroad when those borders REALLY lock down. I actually have a friend who got stuck in India for about a month as all this was beginning to spin up. Luckily he has people there, but still.

I do film... and it's tough to break into an industry where there isn't one. I've been doing indie productions, which is great for building experience, but lousy for making a living.

Quite true. I don't expect to be doing much travel until the vaccines are broadly deployed and administered even after relocating.

Did anyone get a shipping notification? There was meant to be a new batch shipping 11/30.

*** I just saw they are dealing with another major fire in the area. Empathy to everyone over at RED Irvine, not easy.

Another fire?

2020 is just not giving up.

Empathy for everyone in SoCal...

Placed my order through Red on 11/30. Wait times were 10-12 weeks (early March). Decided to cancel and order through B&H yesterday, 12/2. The sales person at B&H said they can’t confirm how many backordered items in their next shipment are spoken for... but I’m feeling optimistic. Anyone think this was a bad move?

Oh no... I hope everything is okay with everyone and that our Shipment won’t be affected by this! Fingers crossed!

I always have respect for the risk taker but at this point it’s really a toss up! (With other words I don’t know) hope this is the faster way. Up until now people that ordered from partners got theirs faster. In the mean while the waiting is taking it’s toll on me lol (joking) but seriously it’s been a while now and i’m getting more eager by the day! (Ordered on oct 23 trough RED)

Maybe the retail partners are getting their shipments from the Mexico factory, which AFAIK hasn't been disrupted by fires like Irvine has?

As long as it doesn't have a "made in Mexico" badge on it I'm cool with that....or "made in North America," because we all know that doesn't mean the US or Canada.

My guess is that components are made in Mexico (probably CNC milling bodies en masse and maybe pick'n'pluck board manufacturing??) and then those components undergo final assembly in Irvine. Mine says made in USA.

Re: aks - yes it's kind of maddening to have all the necessary components trickle in. I'm getting quite friendly with my FedEx guy... :)

Those "used" BP955's from B&H were basically brand new. I don't think they'd even been charged - so something to keep an eye out for, if they pop up again!

Should get a hefty 8Sinn order next week, it's in Warsaw as of today. Excited to see how their Evolution PL mount goes together, with the beefier support bracket compared to the WC style post-and-thumbscrew support foot. Can't justify a Revolva just yet - maybe in 2021 if we get a vaccine. The tyranny of choice right now, with all the 3rd party manufacturers coming online with their respective parts offerings!

Red gave me an ETA of the 14th for an October 23rd direct order... hopefully there won't be any further delays...

In the mean time, I have one 1 TB CF card + reader on the way, and a charger, but no news on the batteries. At least I'll be able to turn it on and pop some lenses on it while I await the batteries... the ETA of which I have no idea. :-/

Not sure, RED told me my Oct 14 order should be shipped out this week on Monday Nov 30, but now it hasn't be shipped yet. My expectation now move to arriving before Christmas.

I'm just passing on what Red guesstimated.

Hopefully though they are getting caught up... but everything is delayed these days. At least the charger and CFast card I ordered are en route, even though the batteries are not, yet.

This week I was given a shipping ETA of "around" 12/10 for my October 20th order. Hopefully it holds up.

minutes after I replied you, I received RED.com email noticing me the order has been shipped, which means a week delay to the 6 weeks period estimated when I placed the order. I saw someone posted 10/15 order also shipped Saturday, so I guess RED improved their work. One-week delay is a good news.

Ordered on Nov 18, Red estimated a shipping date of Jan 29 - So even for later orders, about a 10 week wait.
