  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Komodo shipping?

When I ordered on 10/13, I was given a 2-3 week timeframe. I just received an email response to my inquiry for an updated ETA and it is now 11/30.

I ordered 10/14, just chat with RED Customer Service, possible shipping time 11/30, yet facing possible delay from that day.

Good to know an indication. 30th is not to bad. The thing here in NL is that customs can leave it like 6 weeks at customs. Until now it was mostly around 2 or 3 weeks so it is possible I have it before Christmas. Nice thing is that I already rented it somewhere for a few jobs.

Happy update: mine shipped today. Ordered 10/13 ~9:30am. They must be going out in batches. Some for resellers, some for online orders....

Also got the 11/30 delay.

Super bummed but understand. I signed onto a film with a killer script the end of this month that I was really hoping to get the little guy on. I ordered an hour or two after launch and I have two friends that ordered days after me that have had theirs for a weeks, which is confusing me but that's alright.

I ordered the Oct 13th & received Nov 5th.. Shipped on Oct 30th - it said "ships in 3-4 weeks" when I was checking out on the RED site.

I got my order in around 5:30 eastern time on 10/13, was still 7-10 business days when I ordered it, got pushed to half way through November, now being told it's being planned to be shipped near 11/30 but that's subject to change due to high demand and impacts on their supply chains which is understandable at this point.

I attempted to order as soon as I noticed the launch email (2hours late on Oct13th) and had multiple cards "decline" by the website. All card companies said funds went through and charges needed to be reversed by RED. I spoke to Dan Baum and he reversed charges the next day and the website continued to fail.

I ended up wire transferring the money.

No status update from RED on shipping yet. Not a great experience so far...

I tried to order within 20 minutes of the email and I had the exact same thing happen and eventually was able to order with another card over the phone delaying my order by 4 hours and delivery by 6 weeks haha.

The other credit card charges eventually dropped off a week after.

New ETA is Nov 30th.

Heh. It's a tough one. Between Scarlet and a few other launches I've been there in person and even within a few seconds a few times to preorder or upgrade. A queue is formed and they chew through it. That you can count on.

We usually don't care because we drop coin and want to receive bacon, but it's been a tough year for camera manufacturers to deliver cameras. Even lower priced mass market stuff has had difficulties to fullfill during our pandemic filled year.

But I'll say this. Komodo is such a wild ride of potential and exciting when you get inspired by it. Most recently before this shoot I was using the Link and then unplugging and going straight to WiFi for wireless camera control and monitoring via a smartphone. Then! I configured a camera to fully remotely shoot on a MoCo setup without being in the freaking room for a proof of concept test. A friend just showed me some motocross stuff he shot with the global shutter and it looks so damn solid. And the camera is bloody tiny.

It's worth the wait I'd you consider what it can do. There's stuff that's different in this realm, does a bit more in some directions and less in others, but there's also nothing really like it out there at the moment. Which makes it pretty damn cool.

Guessing there's been a 1500-2000 cameras shipped since the production models launched in the last couple weeks, but I have no idea really. Just going on the social feeds with the increasing serials numbers and the sheer amount of people hitting me up with the what glass, what filters, what NDs, what media, what batteries messages.

Congrats to those whose new babies landed. It's always exciting. Don't shoot your cat. The world is bigger than that. But if you do, make sure your kitty looks pretty. Or ugly. There's a genre all in itself.

Just got my tracking number moments ago and it’s on the way! So about 12 days ahead the revised ETA they gave me (11/30). I think my order was about 5.5 hrs after launch (I’m in Japan).

Quick updates to those waiting and trying to figure where you are in the queue.

I just got my shipping email! Ordered from Red on Oct 13 at approx 9:42am Pacific time (about 1hr after the announcement).
FYI - Looks like we're now at the 2900's in serial numbers now.

Note: Online, the order currently still says 'processing' so I guess that is not an indicator that of allocation or shipping.

Hope this helps you. Very exciting!
