HUGE price drop! Surprised there are not a tonne of threads and posts discussing this already. (maybe due to the general dying of forums as conversations move to social media instead? :-/ )

Am curious what is behind this.

1) the manufacturing might of Nikon allowing them to lower costs? Thus price cuts for their other cameras are coming as well?
2) strong price competion from the BMD Pyxis / Sony FX3 / Canon C70 / Panasonic S5IIX / Fujifim X-T5 / etc ?
3) clearing old inventory of pre-Nikon products to prepare for the launch of new RED/Nikon cameras?
4) a mix of all of the above?

Lots of chatter/buzz on the FB groups in particular.

Hard to know much of anything, but Komodo is now the oldest of the newest generation of bodies. I do think this places it in a more interesting place considering the pricing on Komodo-X in particular.

Outside of your points David, the market itself is pretty interesting at the moment as well.

The market for other cameras? Which has become quite strongly competitive? (is amazing what you can get for $3K-ish or less these days! For instance Nikon's own Nikon Z8 with: 8.3K 60p N-RAW, 4.1K 60p ProRes RAW, 8K30p and 4K120p Video, 10-Bit Internal)

Or you mean the wider industry market with how the film industry is doing? Yeah, when work slows down that does depress the demand for upgrading / expanding your gear.

Even ARRI has been reportedly having problems shifting units of their ARRI 35 camera, thus the big price drop for it a little while ago earlier this year: https://www.newsshooter.com/2025/01...try-price-lower-cost-media-flexible-licenses/

I guess most people just took note of the big price drop, followed by the realization that this may be the sale of OG Komodo to make room for new cameras. (coming oct/nov 2025?)
