Hey guys I feel like I shouldn't be asking this because I already know the answer but a friend of mine follows a film maker from India that goes by the name "wolf crow"
Recently he has done a comparison of the Komodo vs FX-6 on his website where he goes in detail to state the FX-6 does a 16bit out via SDI and the Komodo only does 12bit.
When questioned on why he was stating this he stated only the sensor and codec aka R3D is 16bit not the actual video recorded. From what I know for years its only been 16bit and nothing has changed, but a friend who is considering a possible purchase is just wandering why he is saying that act.

Now why would you need 16bit out on the SDI, are you going to record it? If so why record it, its colorbaked 16 bit if doing so. Better to use the r3d in camera. Also there is no 16t bit screens so yes, you can not see those 16bits if hooking up a monitor.

So I don't know what amount of bits komodo output trough SDI but frankly, I would say you don't need more 10 at most. Even 8 bit would do for most screens as they can not display more.

He’s talking about the FX6’s 16-bit raw output via its 12G SDI port. But currently, it is only possible to record that signal as 12-bit Prores RAW thru an Atomos recorder, so the point is a bit moot. R3D as a format is quite a bit more flexible than Prores RAW. But that’s not really the strength of the FX6 anyway...
