  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Komodo Battery F.A.Q.

I purchased 3 OEM Canon BP-915 batteries from Ebay and they don't work on the OG Komodo. The camera doesn't boot up (just goes into a boot cycle). When I put one in the sled next to a bp-955 an unsupported battery warning comes up. Has anyone gotten these to work?
TLDR: The 915 batteries are horrible for the Komodo even though they sorta work. I ended up only using the canon and blueshape 955s. Haven't used the 915 or v mount in months.

The 915 work, but not for very long. I haven't tested how long though and ended up not using mine as much as I thought. Since they don't have the communication with Komodo... if you have an issue with either one of them the camera will shut down. All of the 915 batteries are old so you will likely need to reset them. I put them in my charger maybe 6-12 times until they actually charged. This is because the charger doesn't recognize batteries without charge. From what I recall... I placed the 915 in the charger and it either indicated it was charged or faulty... I pulled the battery out and put it back in over and over and the charger eventually started charging the batteries. Once you get some charge in them you shouldn't have to do this again.

Ok thanks, Jordan. I picked up 3 for $30 on EBay so I thought I’d give em a try…

I did notice that when attaching my Portkeys monitor to my Komodo with the BP-915 batteries that their voltage is displayed on the monitor. Theoretically if you know the voltage at which the batteries die you could guess when they would cut out. In any case I contacted Red and asked them to fix the issue in a firmware update...
