  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Komodo Batteries

I have a few genuine used BP-975 that do show battery life on the camera that I'm willing to trade for a few used BP-955 (genuine, showing battery life on camera) if anyone wants to swap up to bigger capacity?

I'm looking to diversify the size of batteries I have that are fully Komodo compatible and have enough BP-975's now.

So I bought the SWIT battery with the DC output to power a monitor and accessories and the camera would warn me every 15 minutes that it wasn't a supported battery. If it were just a onetime warning when you first boot up the camera, I feel like that would have been fine. I don't know if I had a bad battery, but the frequent warnings made it unusable.

For those that don't mind running off one genuine battery at a time, i suppose you could tape over the conductors and just mount it as a dummy battery to then feed power to your accessories, but as a camera battery it is no bueno.

Any chance that these batteries can make the list of approved ones - they are great, good quality price and availability https://cvp.com/product/hawk-woods_dv-955 along with their bigger ones - https://cvp.com/product/hawk-woods_dv-975_canon_battery

they also do a super 4 x charger that is nice and compact - https://cvp.com/product/hawk-woods_dv-mc4a

Hawk-Woods are a good long established UK company - not affiliated to them at all, just like their customer service and it would be nice to get the low power warning and power readouts...

We have been using them on 'La Tormenta' with no problems - except for not having the battery % or voltage readout ;-)

I've just had a cell failure on a Hawks wood battery (Micro 150 so not these) but the customer service was awful. I am out of warranty but due to covid haven't used the battery in anger for a few months. I expected a little help from considering the circumstance especially as its a £400 battery and was only working for 18months. Their response when challenged was 'lets see if IDX last 18 months first shall we' they offered me a tiny reduction on cost of a new one. In addition side by side the IDX type and size owned the HW battery.

Just thought is was worth mentioning ...

Sorry to hear you had problems - Hope we don't... Sucks when things go wrong. Hope you get your issue sorted. Haven't had any issues yet and they were very helpful with our questions. Main thing for us is to try and get them recognised by the Komodo so we can see battery info and low power warnings on screen rather than just the led battery indicators which sometimes in the heat of filming you forget to check...

Any updates on aftermarket batteries that work with Komodo? My ST is going to be in the mail today and I still can't find batteries.

I haven't heard much about support for aftermarket 955s or 975s. I did go ahead and order the Wooden V-Mount adapter, which I think should be shipping soon. I have heard that people are enjoying that and it has been working for them. However, I saw a post on Facebook saying that a bunch of new options regarding batteries will be coming soon. I know that doesn't necessarily answer your question, but I am in the same boat as you.

Can anyone chime in on whether unsupported batteries work but just give a warning and no battery percentage readout? Someone said they get an unsupported warning which pops up every 15 minutes? I wouldn't care if it only happened once but that could become a nuisance on set.

The warning only happens when you attach a battery to the camera.
I'm in week 3 of shooting a feature film with 8 Kastars on my Komodo as an A cam. If you stay on top of when batteries switch when depleted, and you hotswap them, then it works without issue.

Thanks for the tip on how to manage those batteries, Trying to find OEM canon Bp-955's right now seems harder than buying a Komodo ST.

I created a makeshift cable to power the Komodo off the Ronin S gimbal. I know that the Komodo will accept anywhere from 7-17 volts. (my batteries only show 6.8 volts however) the Ronin is providing 11.1 volts so that seems ok. Amps are at 2.0 vs. the batteries provide 2.4 amps. Does anyone out there see any potential issues or problems with powering the camera this way? The Komodo booted up and I didn't get and warnings or other issues. I did some recording and it seemed to work fine. If this works it could solve a lot of gimbal issues and be very handy.

I've found 15 this week. You just need to be super creative where you look.

So much for that great idea....Walmart just cancelled my order saying they don't have those batteries in stock.
