  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Komodo Batteries

Ok, ok, super stupid idea... or is it!? ;)

The Sony NP-F9XX line is the same voltage range and roughly mA sizing as the Canon BP-9XX batts... Why would it be impossible to make an adapter plate for the camera, (or that attaches to the individual batteries) that passes power, and even info and workout a future Komodo firmware update to accept either Canon or Sony battery data thru the info terminals?

Yes, not a small project, but also it seems like the supply of Canon batts is still pretty limited, and Sony NP-F batts have been getting more play in recent years from on-camera monitors and are likely more available.

Just thinking out loud. At minimum, why couldn't we use the Sony NP-F9XX batts even if it's just a direct power adapter?

Haha, I figured .. Thank God I finally got in the 4 Canon batteries I ordered from RED

It's not impossible! It works fine.... I've not got it to pass info (and don't need it really...) but I've been using np-f's for a week without issues

D'oh... either I found the wrong one on Kinefinity's partially translated web site, or I misremembered from the NewsShooter (I think) article. :-/

I see no reason why it wouldn't display voltage other than to be annoying. Electrons are electrons. I don't care what my battery communicates or thinks it is doing. I just want to see it say 7.4, 6.9, etc. I know that a 2cell lithium battery is dead at 6.0. Pretty annoying.

Made a power cable in the mean time, but what am I missing?
 
Agreed. When powered by un-chipped battery through the DC-IN port it will show voltage but when its through the camera back via say Tilta GM plate it just says NA on the monitor. While you can go into the power menu to see the voltage it would be real nice to see voltage on the monitor from un-chipped batteries through the camera back.

Help please!

Help please!

I need to power a Teradek cube 155 transmitter mounted on the Komodo. It has a 2 pin female Lemo input. I will be using 2 BP-955 or BP-975 batteries because I need to be able to hot swap them in the field(doc type work) I know there is a V mount plate that only uses one port and allows for another port to keep a BP battery, but it is too costly and heavy. So if I want to use single BP- batteries, is there any way to power the Teradek with a BP battery ? Will the USB 5V port on the BP battery do it? I Also know there are BP-A batteries with d-tap but they are for the newer canon cameras and don't work on the Komodo. Anyone using BP batteries on the Komodo and also looking to power other accessories? Any help would be appreciated.
 
I think you’re hosed, if you’re solely wanting to power off of BP batteries. The Cube is specc’d at 6-28V input. I think your only real option is to run an adapter plate that has d-taps and/or lemo’s and power with micro/mini bricks. I’ve shot a few times with my friends and he has the CorewSWX plate and runs the micro/mini bricks and it goes forever.

Thanks for replying. I was afraid of that. Unfortunately with v mount t bricks I won't have an option but to shut down the camera to replace the battery and wait the dreaded 30 seconds for it reboot.
 
Borrowed a Komodo and noticed the BlueShapes were not charging on the Dolgin TC40 Quad LP-6 charger.
The lights on the BlueShapes would blink one at a time.
The Canons charged easily but not the BlueShapes.
Anyone else experiences this?

Depending on which battery plate you use and which batteries you have you can hotswap by using a dtap cable to plug directly into the Komodo. Plug the cable into the gold mount or v-lock battery that your about to swap too and plug it into the DC port. Then pop off the low battery and click in the fresh one. Then just unplug the cable and throw it back in your run bag.

It adds an extra step, but on doc stuff it really helps keep the camera smaller not having to run a shark fin.
